Third Generation’s Complete Redesign Increases Consumer Satisfaction

  • Forte is the highest ranked entry in the compact car segment
  • APEAL award comes on the heels of Forte topping its segment in the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study

IRVINE, Calif., July 30, 2019 – One of Kia Motors America’s (KMA) best-selling models – the Forte compact sedan – has earned a J.D. Power Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) award. The announcement comes on the heels of Kia being named the highest ranked mass market brand in the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study for the fifth consecutive year, with the Forte recognized for its segment-topping performance in the compact car segment1.

“Kia developed the third-generation Forte to take on the toughest the compact segment has to offer and the result is a world-class vehicle that raises the bar in terms of styling, packaging and content,” said Michael Cole, chief operating officer and EVP, Kia Motors America.  “Earning back-to-back J.D. Power APEAL and IQS awards, the Forte demonstrates Kia’s high level of commitment to quality and the ownership experience.”

Redesigned for the 2019 model year, the Forte takes on a more sophisticated design and desirable features, transforming one of KMA’s best-selling vehicles into something much more than just a commuter car. For the 2020 model year, the Forte adds two exciting new sport trims to complete the versatile model line, which now comprises FE, LXS, GT Line, EX, and GT.

The J.D. Power APEAL study measures new-vehicle owners’ overall satisfaction with their vehicles in the first 90 days of ownership.  The results are divided into 10 categories and weighted accordingly: exterior, interior, storage, audio, seats, heating and ventilation, driving dynamics, powertrain, visibility, and fuel economy.

  • Five Kia vehicles now have the Top Safety Pick ratingand seven Kia vehicles have the Top Safety Pick Plus rating when equipped with front crash prevention and specific headlights

IRVINE, Calif., July 25, 2019 —Kia has more vehicles with Top Safety Pick (TSP) and Top Safety Pick Plus (TSP+) ratings than any other brand. The new distinction was achieved when the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) recently awarded Top Safety Pick to the new 2020 Kia Telluride, which received “Good” ratings in all six IIHS crashworthiness tests and an “Acceptable” rating for headlights.

“We are extremely proud of this significant achievement,” said Orth Hedrick, Executive Director, Car Planning & Technology, KMA. “We constantly strive to build the best quality and safest vehicles possible and being the automaker with the most TSP and TSP+ ratings is ultimately gratifying.”

To qualify for 2019 Top Safety Pick, a vehicle must earn good ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests, as well as an acceptable or good rating in the passenger-side small overlap front test. It also must earn an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention and an acceptable or good headlight rating.

To qualify for 2019 Top Safety Pick+, a vehicle must earn good ratings in both the driver- and passenger-side small overlap front, as well as in the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. It also must earn an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention and a good headlight rating.

Ratings are also dependent on specific “built after” date for each model. Please refer to iihs.org for more information.

2020 KIA SOUL EARNS 2019 TOP SAFETY PICK PLUS STATUS FROM INSURANCE INSTITUTE FOR HIGHWAY SAFETY

Redesigned Urban Runabout Achieves Top Safety Ratings

  • Soul’s optional Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist systems earned “Superior” rating in testing
  • Recent accolade increases the total number of Kia models included in the 2019 IIHS Safety Awards to 11

IRVINE, Calif., July 2, 2019 — The completely redesigned 2020 Kia Soul has earned Top Safety Pick Plus (TSP+) status from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The TSP+ designation was awarded to Soul models equipped with optional Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist1 systems and LED headlights2. On the heels of the Stinger’s recent TSP+ rating, the Soul’s new accolade increases the total number of Kia vehicles with 2019 Top Safety Pick3 or Top Safety Pick Plus4 ratings to 11 when equipped with optional front crash prevention and specific headlights.

“Sales have shown that the newly designed Soul is hitting all the right marks with car shoppers,” said Michael Cole, chief operating officer and EVP, Kia Motors America (KMA). “The Soul’s unmatched style, driving refinement, and invigorating technology are key factors that have drawn consumers to Kia’s urban car, and this latest safety award is yet another reason the Soul should be considered a top contender in the compact car segment.”

To qualify for a 2019 TSP+ rating, a vehicle must earn “Good” ratings in six crashworthiness tests – driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint – as well as an “Advanced” or “Superior” rating for front crash prevention and a “Good” headlight rating. The Soul earned “Good” ratings for all six crashworthiness tests, and a “Superior” rating for the optional front crash prevention systems, which helped it avoid collisions in the IIHS’s 12-mph and 25-mph track tests. The “Good” rating for the headlights applies to LED projector headlights only.

For 2020, the Soul continues to transcend unmatched style, peppy performance, thrilling technology, and urban practicality. With a versatile lineup that includes the LX, S, X-line, GT-Line, EX, GT Turbo, and Soul EV, there’s truly a Soul for everyone.
