Kia EV6 named 2022 European Car of the Year

  • All-electric high-tech crossover secures one of the world’s most prestigious automotive awards
  • Kia EV6 beats fierce competition – Hyundai IONIQ 5, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Škoda Enyaq iV, Cupra Born, Renault Mégane E-Tech and Peugeot 308 – to take the title
  • EV6 has a winning combination of a long-distance real-world driving range with ultra-fast charging technology
  • Developed on a dedicated electric vehicle architecture, EV6 can travel up to 528 kilometres on a single charge; it takes just 18 minutes to charge the advanced battery from 10 to 80 percent

(FRANKFURT) February 28, 2022 – The all-new Kia EV6 has been named the 2022 Car of the Year in the prestigious European Car of the Year (COTY) awards. The innovative all-electric crossover was voted the overall winner by a 61-strong jury consisting of highly respected motoring journalists from 23 European countries.

The Kia EV6 was initially listed for consideration for the top award alongside over sixty models that launched during 2021. In November, the COTY jury whittled this longlist down to a seven-strong shortlist, six of which were electric vehicles (EVs), further demonstrating the growing importance of electric vehicles to consumers as society transitions towards a new mobility future.

From making the shortlist, the EV6 successfully fought off competition from the Hyundai IONIQ 5, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Škoda Enyaq iV, Cupra Born, Renault Mégane E-Tech and Peugeot 308 to be crowned 2022 European Car of the Year.

Jason Jeong, President at Kia Europe, commented: “It’s a great honour to have won the 2022 European Car of the Year with the EV6, the first ever Kia to win this prestigious award. The EV6 is truly a landmark development that’s been designed from the outset to make electric mobility fun, convenient and accessible by combining a highly impressive real-world driving range, ultra-fast charging capabilities, a spacious high-tech interior and a truly rewarding driving experience. The EV6 is an exciting sign of what’s still to come in our evolving electrified line-up.”

Dedicated platform

The EV6 is Kia’s first dedicated EV to be based on the company’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). This high-tech architecture ensures the EV6 eliminates the many compromises faced by EVs that are created on platforms initially designed to accommodate internal combustion engine vehicles. As a result of its E-GMP underpinnings, the EV6 has a class-leading interior space, a highly impressive 528km driving range and 800V ultra-fast charging capabilities that enables customers to carry out a 10 to 80 percent charge in just 18 minutes.

Signifying its high-tech positioning, the EV6 was the first global model to incorporate Kia’s new design philosophy ‘Opposites United’ which takes inspiration from the contrasts found in nature and humanity. At the center of the design philosophy is a new visual identity evoking positive forces and natural energy, with contrasting combinations of sharp stylistic elements and sculptural shapes.

The 2022 European Car of the Year award is the latest in a growing number of globally renowned awards bestowed on the EV6 since its introduction last year. Other titles recently claimed include: 2022 Irish Car of the Year; 2022 What Car? ‘Car of the Year’; ‘Crossover of the Year’ at the TopGear.com 2021 awards; ‘Premium’ winner in the German Car of the Year 2022 awards; and joint winner of the inaugural ‘Best Cars of the Year’ 2021/2022 awards.

The EV6 is the first of seven dedicated EV models Kia plans to launch by 2026. The all-electric crossover will play a key role in the company’s plans to become a leading global sustainable mobility solutions provider.

  • K5 and Stinger sedans receive TOP SAFETY PICK+ honors
  • Kia ties for second most combined TSP and TSP+ vehicles in the industry for 2022

IRVINE, Calif., February 24, 2022 – The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) recognized eight Kia vehicles – tied for second most in the industry – on its 2022 TOP SAFETY PICK (TSP) and TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) awards lists. The Kia Telluride, Sorento, Seltos, Carnival built after March 2021 (with specific headlights), Sportage, and Soul (with optional front crash prevention and specific headlights) all received TSP awards. KIA AMERICA COLLABORATES WITH ELECTRIFY AMERICA TO PROVIDE EV6 BUYERS WITH 1,000 KILOWATT-HOURS CHARGING AT NO ADDITIONAL COST

  • Kia’s all-new, all-electric EV6 is on sale now in showrooms across the country
  • Complimentary charging will be accessible through the Electrify America mobile app

IRVINE, Calif., February 22, 2022 – Kia America and Electrify America have announced a partnership to provide Kia EV6 buyers with 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of complimentary EV charging/energy at any Electrify America station across the U.S.  The agreement between the two companies will enable Kia owners 3,500 to 4,000 miles of all-electric driving at no charging cost, depending on the vehicle model and various conditions.

Electrify America’s vast DC charging network is the largest in the country, allowing high-speed charging of up to 350 kilowatts (kW) for capable vehicles.  Kia customers can access this advanced charging network through the Electrify America mobile app.  An enrollment code for the app is provided through the owner’s portal or the Kia Access App after the EV6 owner enrolls into Kia Connect, the brand’s robust in-car telematics system.

“Kia is undergoing a pivotal shift to electrification and the all-new EV6 is the first major step in that direction, underpinned by the company’s advanced E-GMP platform,” said Steve Center, COO and EVP, Kia America. “Partnering with Electrify America will enable our customers to enjoy a superior charging experience coupled with the outstanding all-electric range of the EV6.”

The EV6 state-of-the-art 77.4 kWh high-density lithium-ion battery allows up to an EPA-rated 310-mile range for road trips and excursions.  Furthermore, its 800V multi-charging architecture enables ultra-fast DC charging capability from 10-80 percent charge (up to 217 miles range) in under 18 minutes at a 350 kW charger, depending on various conditions, aligning with Electrify America’s high-speed charging experience.

“Our collaboration with Kia is an excellent example of how automakers are helping customers make the transition to an electric lifestyle easy for new EV customers,” “said Giovanni Palazzo, president and chief executive officer of Electrify America. “We are entering an exciting time in delivering personal transportation options to consumers and Electrify America is dedicated to making the switch to zero emission vehicles seamless with convenient and reliable charging options.”

Kia EV6 owners will have three years from the date of purchase to use the 1,000 kWh of complimentary charging.  During that time, customers can direct any questions or request guidance from Electrify America’s 24-hour Customer Contact Center.

Kia named to Car and Driver 2022 Editors’ Choice Awards with six winning vehicles

IRVINE, Calif., February 18, 2022 – The Telluride, Sorento, Carnival, K5, Soul and Rio were named Car and Driver 2022 Editors’ Choice award winners, alongside other models representing the publication’s annual standard of automotive excellence. The six Kia models were selected from nearly 400 models that the editors tested, rated, and ranked across market segments—from crossover SUVs to electric vehicles and sedans to family-sized vans.

"We are honored to be recognized by Car and Driver for the quality and craftsmanship across our world-class lineup,” said Steven Center, COO and EVP, Kia America. “The fact that our six winning models span numerous vehicle segments is a true testament to Kia’s pursuit of building vehicles for every type of driver.”

This latest honor comes on the heels of the Kia Telluride being named to Car and Driver’s long-running 10Best list, which celebrates the ten very best cars, trucks and SUVs on the market this year.

The editors of Car and Driver noted, “Our staff of automotive experts has pored over every data point, driven hundreds of thousands of miles, and applied our rigorous testing regimen to vehicles of every type to determine the best and brightest cars, trucks, SUVs, minivans, and electric vehicles available today.”

The criteria used to develop the Editors’ Choice list includes the results of Car and Driver’s instrumented testing, subjective editor evaluations, how well a vehicle fulfills its intended mission and each vehicle’s market segment ranking. The full list of award winners is available at CarandDriver.com.

“ROBO DOG” STAR OF KIA AMERICA’S SUPER BOWL SPOT IS NOW FEATURED IN AN NFT COLLECTION TO HELP ANIMALS IN NEED FIND FOREVER HOMES

IRVINE, Calif., February 11, 2022 - Kia America announced its first NFT series, based on “Robo Dog”, the robot puppy and star of Kia’s Super Bowl spot. Partnering with NFT platform Sweet and The Petfinder Foundation, the series is available in three unique and accessible collections with 90-percent of all primary sales proceeds benefiting The Petfinder Foundation to help animals in need find their forever homes. In addition, a 10-percent royalty is written into the smart contract on the blockchain, so whenever a Robo Dog NFT across the series is resold on a participating secondary market, The Petfinder Foundation will again benefit from funding for additional pet adoptions. The Robo Dog NFT series is minted on the Tezos blockchain and is made up of the following:

  • Launching on February 11th, 10,000 Robo Dog Adoption Pass NFTs will be made available for free. People who claim one of these Robo Dog Adoption Passes will get presale access to one of 10,000 generative Robo Dog NFTs Kia America is making available for sale on February 18th.
  • On February 13th, coinciding with the big game, six, one-of-a-kind, art inspired Robo Dog NFTs will be made available at a starting bid of $299, the original MSRP of the robotic pup before he escaped the electronics store. The auctions run through February 18th at 12pm ET.
  • Then on February 18th, to coincide with the NBA All-Star weekend, Kia will make 10,000 generative Robo Dog NFTs available for purchase at sweet.io. People holding a Robo Dog Adoption Pass NFT will gain early access at 3pm ET to purchase one of these unique Robo Dog NFTs for $20.22. The public sale will start at 7pm ET for anyone without an adoption certificate who wants to adopt a Robo Dog NFT of their own.

10,000 Robo Dog NFTs are being made available on a first-come, first-served basis just prior to the weekend of the Big Game. An auction of six rare Robo Dog NFTs starts at 12pm ET, just before game-time, Sunday.

“Many of us are aware of the increase in pet adoptions as a result of the pandemic,” said Russell Wager, vice president, marketing, Kia America. “Although tens of thousands of animals have found their forever homes, pet surrenders to shelters are increasing as people return to work and there are many pets whose stories deserve to end as happily as Robo Dog’s did in our Super Bowl spot.”

The final collection of this NFT Series opens on February 18th just as the NBA All-Star weekend begins in Cleveland as 10,000 generative Robo Dog NFTs are made available for purchase at sweet.io. Kia and Sweet have designed this specific collection to achieve scarcity through a list of rarity traits that mimic the traits people use as filters to find their best dog adoption match on Petfinder.com. Each generative Robo Dog NFT comes preprogrammed with traits such as breed, age, size, gender, coat length and color and since older dogs and larger dogs tend to be a bit less desired in the real world. Robo Dog NFTs programmed with traits such as older or large might become even more scarce and sought after.

“After sports, the automotive Marketing space is an obvious area where NFTs can thrive and engage people. There is a long history of people loving their car brands and loving their cars. And what I love about the Kia Robo Dog NFT series is how well it ties into our mission here at Sweet and that is: to empower brands like Kia to deploy NFTs to broader consumer bases through engaging experiences,” said Tom Mizzone, CEO of Sweet. “As a dog owner myself, I can’t think of anything more engaging than the chance to have a Robo Dog of my own as a digital collectible and the opportunity to use NFT technology to help pets find loving homes.”

KIA RANKS FIRST AMONG ALL AUTOMOTIVE BRANDS IN J.D. POWER 2022 VEHICLE DEPENDABILITY STUDY

  • U.S.-built Sorento earns top Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) award for Upper Midsize SUV category
  • Kia moves from the number one mass-market brand in the 2021 study to number one overall, outranking 31 automotive manufacturers across the industry

IRVINE, Calif., February 10, 2022 – The J.D. Power 2022 Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) ranks Kia as the overall leader among all major automotive brands (mainstream and luxury) in the U.S. In addition, Kia’s popular Sorento has taken the top spot in the study’s Upper Midsize SUV category. The Sorento is built at Kia’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in West Point, Georgia.

The industry-wide study examines problems experienced during the past 12 months by original owners of three-year old vehicles (2019 model year).  Overall dependability is determined by the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100).  Thus, a lower score reflects a higher level of quality.  Kia claimed top Overall Nameplate honors with a score of 145 PP100.  This latest achievement comes on the heels of Kia earning the highest number of J.D. Power Initial Quality awards in the industry in 2021.

“The results of this year’s J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study substantiate Kia’s unrelenting commitment to the quality, durability and craftsmanship of our award-winning vehicle line,” said Sean Yoon, president and CEO of Kia North America and Kia America.  “Furthermore, the Sorento’s category win speaks to the world-class ownership experience we deliver to our customers.”

The study was comprised of 29,487 completed surveys and measured the quality of today’s vehicles, particularly related to new technologies and features currently available to buyers.  It included 32 nameplates, covering specific problem symptoms grouped into five major vehicle areas:  PP100, component replacement, software updates, vehicle appeal, and deterioration.

Kia America Renews Sponsorship of B.R.A.K.E.S. Teen Pro-Active Driving School

Fleet of Kia Vehicles Driven in B.R.A.K.E.S. Hands-on Defensive Driving Training Sessions                                                                                                Across the U.S. for Twelve Years

  • Car crashes are the number one cause of teen fatalities; and teens who graduate from B.R.A.K.E.S. are 64-percent less likely to be in a crash in their first three years of driving
  • Program expected to provide training for more than 16,000 teens and parents nationwide in 2022
  • The award-winning Kia Rio, Soul, Forte and Seltos are used for hands-on instruction

IRVINE, Calif., February 10, 2022 -- Kia America and B.R.A.K.E.S. (Be Responsible and Keep Everyone Safe) today announced a renewal of their partnership and continued commitment to reducing injuries and saving lives by providing teens and their parents with the tools they need to be responsible behind the wheel. Founded in 2008, B.R.A.K.E.S. combines classroom instruction with hands-on-defensive driver training courses in Kia vehicles for both teen drivers and their parents. Along with their teens, parents are asked to participate to further reinforce the lessons teens learn during the classes and as a way to identify and correct any bad habits that may have developed through the years since they themselves began driving.

In 2022, B.R.A.K.E.S. will conduct a total of 225 classes for teens and their parents nationwide. To register for a class or to view the full upcoming schedule, visit www.putonthebrakes.org.

“The number-one cause of death among teens are car crashes and Kia’s partnership with B.R.A.K.E.S. is directly addressing that issue. Education and real-word training are two of the most important ways we can facilitate a change and make a difference in that area, but it wouldn’t be possible without Kia’s help and the fleet of training vehicles the company provides,” said Doug Herbert, drag-racing-champion and founder of B.R.A.K.E.S. “It’s impossible to gauge the exact number of lives the B.R.A.K.E.S schools have saved over the last 14 years. In total, we have trained more than 100,000 teens and their parents. But even if we can only say for certain that we saved just one life, it would all be worth it. The ongoing commitment and support from Kia allow us to continue making America’s roads safer for everyone and for that we are grateful.”

Kia serves as the Official Vehicle and a presenting sponsor of B.R.A.K.E.S., and through the automaker’s support, B.R.A.K.E.S. can offer free training for all attendees. Kia’s sponsorship helps by offsetting costs through a financial donation and the fleet of 44 Kia vehicles, including Soul, Rio and Forte models that are supplied by Kia for each training class.

“Kia is committed to vehicle and road safety, and our partnership with B.R.A.K.E.S. is an important way for us to keep the drivers of America safe, regardless of whether they are behind the wheel of a Kia vehicle,” said Russell Wager, vice president, marketing, Kia Motors America. “We congratulate B.R.A.K.E.S. for the life-saving work they have made their mission and Kia is proud to continue our collaboration for years to come.”

B.R.A.K.E.S. is NOT Driver’s Ed. It is a free, hands-on, advanced driver training program taught by professional instructors, including current and former members of law enforcement, professional racers and stunt drivers. B.R.A.K.E.S. maintains a low two-to-one student-to-instructor ratio to maximize educational effectiveness.  Each weekend B.R.A.K.E.S. schools include identical sessions to allow parents and teens to pick one that will fit into their busy schedules. Every session includes three hours of training with a class size of 36 teen participants – beginning with a classroom presentation followed by practical, behind the wheel instruction in new Kia vehicles. The program includes distracted driving awareness, panic braking, drop-wheel/off-road recovery, crash avoidance and car control/skid recovery – all among the biggest causes of crashes for new drivers. Other educational elements often include ‘Big Rig’ safety, first responder vehicle extrication demonstration, and what to do in the event of a traffic stop.

“We designed and engineered the Telluride to provide Kia customers with a large number of standard features, advanced technology, and the peace of mind of the longest powertrain warranty in the segment: all factors that contribute to exceptional value,” said Sean Yoon, president & CEO, Kia North America, Kia America.

Editors from U.S. News Best Cars selected Telluride as their Best 3-Row SUV for the Money through a process of evaluating quality, safety, and reliability data, as well as subjective criteria.

“The Telluride is a standout in our midsize SUV rankings, with useful standard technology features and a high-quality cabin that provides impressive room for passengers and cargo alike,” said Jim Sharifi, managing editor of U.S. News Best Cars. “It also promises to be a strong value over the course of ownership, with a long powertrain warranty and low projected ownership costs.”

With nearly 90 percent of Tellurides being purchased by families1, the well-equipped three-row SUV continues to resonate with those looking for room for up to eight passengers, plenty of cargo space and numerous standard advanced driver assistance systems. Telluride continued generating strong sales for the Kia brand in 2021 with 93,705 units sold, representing a 25 percent increase over the previous year.

As a first-time winner of Best Car for the Money, Telluride has set a high bar for all Kia vehicles to achieve. For 2022, the Telluride adds the new Kia badging and redesigned radiator grille. Inside, the Telluride adds a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen navigation display, fully automatic temperature control and highway driving assist to the LX and S trims, as well as Navigation Based Smart Cruise Control-Curve to all trims.

PLUGGED IN, DIALED IN: 2023 KIA SPORTAGE PHEV EXPANDS THE BREADTH OF KIA ELECTRIFIED SUVS

First Plug-In Hybrid Variant for the Sportage Lineup Debuts

  • Comprehensive offering of premium amenities and technology features comes standard on Sportage PHEV
  • “Opposites United” design philosophy blends nature with rugged design elements
  • Available Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) include 360° Surround View Monitor with 3D View and live feed Blind-Spot View Monitor within instrument cluster

(IRVINE, Calif.) February 8, 2022 – Today, Kia unveiled the 2023 Sportage PHEV, the latest electrified model to join the lineup of award-winning SUVs. Building upon the foundation laid by the Sportage HEV, the turbocharged Sportage PHEV offers outstanding efficiency, with a 13.8-kWh battery and targeted all-electric range (AER) of 32 miles1.

“The first Sportage PHEV to be introduced in the U.S. demonstrates that Kia is listening to our consumers who are asking for electrified solutions and super-efficient powertrains, and Sportage delivers on that promise in a sophisticated, refined package,” said Sean Yoon, president and CEO, Kia America and Kia North America. “As Kia continues to implement our Plan S strategy and push toward carbon neutrality, models like Sportage PHEV are paving the way.”

As the longest running nameplate from the Kia brand, the Sportage underwent its most significant change to date as the fifth generation was unveiled in November 2021. Developed as part of Kia’s new global brand transformation, “Movement that Inspires,” the 2023 Sportage delivers more of everything for today’s savvy, adventurous and eco-conscious consumers. Sportage PHEV augments the Kia subcompact SUV lineup with two design-focused X-Line trim levels that come standard with all-wheel drive. The Sportage PHEV is planned to go on sale in the third quarter of this year and pricing will be announced closer to the vehicle’s on-sale date.

Plugged In to the Needs of the Subcompact SUV Market

Power for the 2023 Sportage PHEV is supplied by a 1.6-liter, 177-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine, supplemented by a 66.9-kW electric motor and 13.8 kWh lithium polymer battery. A 6-speed automatic transmission with selectable drive modes is standard, as is Downhill Brake Control (DBC).

Charging is accomplished courtesy of a 7.2 kW high-efficiency on-board charger, with the best possible power density at 1.53 kW/ℓ. When connected to a Level-2 charger, the Sportage PHEV will take approximately two hours to fully replenish its battery. Integrated Electronic Brake (IEB), standard on the Sportage PHEV, combines hydraulic pressure generation and control functions. Linear braking feel is realized by the electronic control using the motor, and the Sportage PHEV offers a higher recovery rate of regenerative braking, versus its competitors. EPA fuel economy ratings for the Sportage PHEV will be announced closer to the vehicle’s on-sale date.

Underpinned by the “N3” platform found in the Sorento, the Sportage PHEV chassis comprises hot-stamped parts and ultra-high-strength steel for increased average tensile strength and torsional stiffness. Sound absorbing and insulating materials minimize road, wind, and engine noise. Like all fifth-generation Sportage models, the 2023 Sportage PHEV is now one of the largest SUVs in its class. With best-in-class rear legroom of 39.5 inches2 and rear cargo capacity of 34.5 cu.-ft., the Sportage PHEV provides rear passengers with space to relax.

X-Line: A Balancing Act in Design and Technology

The Sportage PHEV is offered in two comprehensively equipped trim levels: X-Line PHEV AWD and X-Line Prestige PHEV AWD. X-Line styling cues blend sporty and rugged exterior features, including unique front and rear bumpers with a satin chrome surround; side mirrors, roof rack and window surrounds finished in gloss black; and 19-inch, gloss-black alloy wheels.

Bearing all the elements of the Kia “Opposites United” design philosophy, the Sportage PHEV has a distinctive appearance that leaves a lasting impression with contrasting elements. Smooth, soft surfaces are offset by rugged, sheer forms. Front and center on the Sportage PHEV is Kia’s signature Tiger Nose grille, which features a floating design and distinct “boomerang” daytime running lights. The Sportage PHEV also has standard LED taillights. Muscular shoulders around the rear flow into futuristic “notch-shaped” taillights, which are connected by a thin black graphic across the tailgate.

Inspired by high-end outdoor products, furniture, and modern architecture, the interior of the Sportage PHEV transforms the cabin into a pleasant living space. The futuristic driver cockpit with available dual panoramic curved display3 connects two screens for nearly 25-inches of viewing (12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 12.3-inch infotainment screen).

To match the content and quality of the high-tech interior, the Sportage abounds with standard and available infotainment features to keep drivers connected, confident, and informed. Android Auto4 and Apple CarPlay5 are standard on both trims, as is an intuitive touchpad with climate and audio controls that sits beneath the infotainment screen. An available 360-degree Surround-View Monitor with 3D view provides a bird’s-eye view of vehicle surroundings6. A Harman/Kardon7 premium audio system is standard on Sportage X-Line Prestige PHEV AWD.

Available Kia Connect8 services provide advanced embedded connectivity to take the customer experience to an all-new level, including the ability to remotely charge from the Kia Access smartphone app. Kia Connect introduces a Wi-Fi Hotspot9 that can connect as many as five devices to 4G LTE-based internet, over-the-air map updates, stolen vehicle tracking and immobilization capability, and Connected Routing: a cloud-based system calculates the optimal route using real-time maps and predicted traffic info based on historical information and AI to learn the preferred routes of users.

Inspiring Driver Confidence with Advanced Driver Assistance

Sportage PHEV models are fitted with numerous standard ADAS features, including:

  • Driver Attention Warning (DAW)10: Analyzes the driver attention level and provides a warning if a break is recommended. It may also provide a leading vehicle departure alert if the leading vehicle departs from a stop and the driver does not react within a certain time period
  • LED Headlights with High Beam Assist (HBA): Engineered to automatically dim the headlights when an oncoming or leading vehicle is detected, then return to high beams when vehicles are no longer detected
  • Lane Following Assist (LFA): Helps detect lane markings and vehicles ahead and provides steering inputs to help center the vehicle in the lane
  • Lane Keeping Assist (LKA): Helps detect lane markings and provides steering inputs to help prevent the vehicle from leaving the lane while driving
  • Forward Collision Avoidance (FCA) with Cyclist detection capability: Warns if there is risk of a collision with a vehicle, pedestrian, or cyclist in front of the vehicle while driving and may automatically assist with braking
  • Rear Occupant Alert (ROA)11: Provides a warning to the driver to check the rear seat before exiting the vehicle
  • Rear View Monitor (RVM) with Dynamic Parking Guidance: Provides view of behind the vehicle, with guidelines that adjust to follow the direction the vehicle is turning
  • Reverse Parking Distance Warning (PDW-R): Detects certain objects behind the vehicle, issuing an audible warning when an obstruction is detected. The warning tone chimes faster as the vehicle gets closer to the detected object
  • Blind Spot Collision Avoidance (BCA) with Parallel Exit: May help avoid collisions with rear-side vehicles when exiting parallel parking spot by automatically assisting with braking
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance-Assist (RCCA): Helps detect approaching cross traffic when in reverse. When approaching cross traffic is detected, the system alerts the driver and may apply brakes
  • Safe Exit Warning (SEW)12: Provides a warning when a vehicle is approaching from the rear-side while someone is exiting the vehicle
  • Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA): Uses speed limit information detected through the front camera or GPS navigation information (when activated) and issues warning if the speed is over the speed limit

In addition to these features, standard on Sportage X-Line Prestige PHEV AWD are:

  • Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM)13: Projects live video view of adjacent lanes in the instrument cluster when activated via the turn signal
  • Forward Collision Avoidance (FCA) with Junction Turning capability: Helps avoid collisions with an oncoming vehicle while turning left at an intersection
  • Forward Parking Distance Warning (PDW-F): Detects certain objects in front of the vehicle, issuing an audible warning when an obstruction is detected. The warning tone chimes faster as the vehicle gets closer to the detected object
  • Highway Driving Assist (HDA)14: Uses federal highway speed limit information from the navigation system and, under certain conditions, will automatically adjust speed to be within the posted speed limit and maintain distance with the vehicle detected in front and helps center the vehicle in the lane
  • Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control-Curve (NSCC-C): Leverages the navigation system to help lower the vehicle speed proactively before upcoming curves
  • Reverse Parking Collision Avoidance (PCA-R): May help avoid collisions with rear pedestrians or objects detected during reverse parking, potentially automatically assisting with emergency braking if the risk of a collision increases after warning
  • Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA): state-of-the-art convenience, which lets the driver remotely command their Sportage to pull in or out of a tight parking space while the driver is outside of the vehicle
  • Smart Cruise Control (SCC) with Stop and Go: Helps maintain distance from the vehicle ahead and drive at a speed set by the driver, including in certain stop-and-go driving conditions

KIA AMERICA RETURNS TO THE SUPER BOWL WITH A FULLY CHARGED “TAIL” OF UNCONDITIONAL LOVE

:60-Second Spot Finds an Adorable Robo Dog Falling for the All-New, All-Electric Kia EV6; Campaign Will Help Shelter Animals Find Forever Homes Through Exclusive Petfinder Foundation Partnership

  • Special “Robo Dogmented Reality” QR Code allows animal lovers to search for adoptable animals in their local area
  • Robo Dog “Turn Around Dance” on TikTok lets viewers dance with Robo Dog
  • Comprehensive marketing campaign includes broadcast, print, out-of-home, and social media elements

IRVINE, Calif., February 3, 2022 – Debuting ahead of the big game, Kia returns to the Super Bowl with a :60-second spot featuring the all-new, all-electric Kia EV6, the brand’s first dedicated battery electric vehicle. The EV6 is the first of 11 all-new electrified models Kia will introduce globally by 2026 under Kia’s Plan S strategy. The comprehensive marketing campaign includes broadcast, print, out-of-home and social media elements, a special Robo Dog “Turn Around Dance” on TikTok and a QR Code-based “Robo Dogmented Reality” experience that allows users to search for adoptable animals in their local areas through a partnership with the Petfinder Foundation.

Kia’s 13th Super Bowl spot, entitled “Robo Dog,” opens on an electronics store where a lonely robotic puppy stares out the window as a “real” dog is lovingly petted by a passerby out for a walk. Robo Dog then notices a young man unplug his Kia EV6 from a charging station and drive away, leaving Robo Dog even more dejected. As “Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Bonnie Tyler begins to play, the door to the store opens and Robo Dog seizes the opportunity to give chase to the man in the EV6. Robo Dog is confronted with a series of obstacles that sap his energy and put even more time and distance between him and the object of his affection. Anticipating that he can cut the EV6 off Robo Dog rides an elevator to the roof of a building and watches the car approach on the street below. Taking a leap of faith and on his last moments of charge, Robo Dog hurls toward the open sunroof of the EV6.

Robo Dog’s eyes slowly open and he sees the young man kneeling over him. He realizes he’s been plugged into the EV6, using the model’s innovative onboard charger, fully recharging his battery, and illustrating not only the innovation of the EV6, but also the depth of the human-animal bond.

“The EV6 marks the beginning of Kia as a sustainable mobility solutions provider and is the next step in our shift to electrification,” said Russell Wager, vice president, marketing, Kia America. “To introduce over 100 million viewers to the Kia EV6, we wanted to juxtapose the future with the emotions we all know and understand today – the love that can be shared between a human and an animal.”

Kia’s Super Bowl spot is part of an integrated marketing campaign that includes a partnership between the automaker and the Petfinder Foundation designed to help shelter animals find their forever homes. The initiative is the latest under the brand’s celebrated Accelerate The Good Program which has also contributed to help students in need achieve their goals of higher education and the fight against youth homelessness.

“At Kia, we continue to give back to the communities in which we work and live,” continued Wager. “We looked at issues that needed attention and found that during the pandemic, many animals were adopted only to sadly be returned later, so we wanted to help.”

ROBO DOGMENTED REALITY
On Wednesday, February 9, in partnership with the Petfinder Foundation, Kia will launch its “Robo Dogmented Reality” mobile web experience which allows animal lovers to simply scan a QR Code to bring Kia’s Robo Dog into their own home through any mobile device. This innovative experience virtualizes pet adoption instantly and entices users to consider adopting an animal in need in their local communities.

“We are proud to partner with Kia America for their Super Bowl campaign,” said Toni Morgan, executive director, Petfinder Foundation. “Countless animals need loving and forever homes and we hope to place many of them over the coming weeks. The human-animal bond is vitally important and can bring years of happiness, comfort and companionship to both the animal and owner.”

TIKTOK’S ROBO DOG “TURN AROUND” DANCE
On Friday, February 11, Kia will launch its first-ever TikTok integration, which will provide users a chance to dance with the cutest robotic dog ever, Robo Dog, to Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart.” Each time users hear “turn around”, Robo Dog turns, and users can turn with him. Kia partnered with five TikTok creators to encourage pet adoption, while spreading the fun and love. TikTok creators participating are, @dougthepug, @besperon, @hi_im_chewie, @melissabecraft and @laurengottlieb.

The campaign will include both :15- and :30-second versions of “Robo Dog” as well as print, out-of-home and social media components.
