THREE KIA MODELS WIN A 2023 BEST CARS FOR THE MONEY AWARD FROM U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT

Kia Sportage Hybrid, K5 and Rio Named to List of Winners

IRVINE, CA, January 19, 2023 – A trio of Kia models have been recognized as winners in the annual 2023 Best Cars for the Money awards from U.S. News & World Report. Taking top honors this year are the 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid (Best Hybrid SUV for the Money), Kia K5 (Best Midsize Car for the Money), and Kia Rio (Best Subcompact Car for the Money). Covering 12 automotive categories, the awards highlight cars and SUVs that represent the best combination of long-term value and excellent ownership experience.

“These three Best Cars for the Money awards from U.S. News & World Report speak to the appeal and value of our entire product lineup, from established nameplates like the Rio, to our more recent models like the Sportage Hybrid SUV,” said Steven Center, COO and EVP, Kia America. “Although we strive to deliver the utmost in design, technology, performance, and comfort, we recognize value is always a top priority to our customers.”

Winners were selected on the basis of quality and value. Quality is determined by each vehicle’s performance in U.S. News & World Report Best Car Rankings and value is measured by a combination of transaction prices and five-year total ownership costs.

“Our Best Cars for the Money awards are designed to identify the vehicles that provide both a strong long-term value and a satisfying ownership experience,” said Jim Sharifi, managing editor at U.S. News Best Cars. “The Sportage Hybrid, K5 and Rio all deliver when it comes to keeping projected ownership costs low. Strong performance in our rankings and an impressive list of useful tech features also make them top picks for buyers who prioritize quality during their car-shopping journey.”

For 2023, both the Rio and K5 carryover into the new model year with minor enhancements, while the Sportage Hybrid joins the Kia family as an electrified version of the Sportage. A key model in Kia’s ‘Plan S’ strategy, the Sportage Hybrid follows in the footsteps of the EV6 and the Sorento PHEV as another example of Kia’s multiple pathways to electrification.

* The K5, Sportage, Sorento, and Telluride (excludes HEV and PHEV models) are assembled in the United States from U.S. and globally sourced parts.

KIA SPORTAGE HYBRID NAMED 2023 EDMUNDS TOP RATED SUV

First Win for Sportage Hybrid in Competitive Selection Process

IRVINE, Calif., January 18, 2023 – Today, the 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid SUV was recognized as the 2023 Edmunds Top Rated SUV. This win recognizes the first-ever Sportage Hybrid in its first year of production.

“The Sportage Hybrid delivers a combination of refinement, interior room, and efficiency in a package that is more attractive than ever, and worthy of Edmunds’ best-in-segment honors,” said Steven Center, COO and EVP, Kia America. “With more than 125,000 units sold last year, the Sportage model lineup was our top seller and it’s clearly resonating with our customers as much as it is with the experts at Edmunds.”

Edmunds editors selected the Sportage Hybrid from among all mainstream and luxury SUV segments as best exemplifying an SUV that is accommodating, capable, comfortable and a strong value.

“The Kia Sportage Hybrid is a great example of why SUVs are now the default choice for American families. It’s comfortable, stylish, packed with the latest tech and blessed with a powerful hybrid system. It’s also a great value, which makes it an outstanding choice,” said Alistair Weaver, Editor-in-Chief, Edmunds.

The Sportage Hybrid paves a new pathway for Kia’s electrification efforts, as the third model in an ongoing cadence of electrified offerings guided by Kia’s global EV strategy, “Plan S.” Its electrified performance comes from a hybrid powertrain combining a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine with a 44-kW motor that is rated at an EPA-estimated 43 MPG combined for the FWD variant and 38 MPG combined1 when equipped with available all-wheel-drive2. Working together, the engine and motor produce 227 horsepower.

WIN-WIN: KIA EV6 AND KIA TELLURIDE NAMED TO 2023 CAR AND DRIVER 10BEST TRUCKS AND SUVS

Two Victories for Kia in Highly Selective Competition

-    Telluride recognized as only SUV to win four consecutive titles since launch
-    All-electric EV6 received the honor in its first year on sale

IRVINE, Calif., January 17, 2023 – Today, the all-electric 2023 Kia EV6 performance crossover and the rugged and refined 2023 Kia Telluride SUV were recognized as 2023 Car and Driver 10Best Trucks and SUVs. This award for the Telluride marks its fourth time on the list in four years, distinguishing Telluride as one of few vehicles to be named a 10Best Award winner for each year it has been on sale. The 2023 honor for the EV6 is the first win for a Kia electric vehicle on the highly selective 10Best Awards list.

“This record-setting, fourth 10Best Award win for Telluride in as many years is evidence that Kia has a core competence in developing class-leading SUVs, and the 10Best Award for the all-electric EV6 burnishes that reputation,” said Steven Center, COO and EVP, Kia America. “Between the Telluride and the EV6, Kia has the spectrum of crossovers and SUVs covered for all types of driving enthusiasts.”

The EV6 and the Telluride were recognized for their respective, class-leading attributes. Car and Driver editors closely evaluated every new or substantially updated vehicle and voted on each using a 100-point scale. To make the list, each vehicle must deliver on its intended purpose better than its competition, offer great value, and be entertaining to drive. Any truck, SUV, or van with a base price higher than $110,000 was excluded from consideration, based on the editors’ belief that a high price should guarantee excellence.

The EV6 continues to rise in popularity. To date, more than 19,000 EV6 models have been sold in the United States. The EV6 delivers jaw-dropping performance, ultra-fast DC charging1 compatibility, onboard power generator2, and a flat-floor interior that utilizes innovative materials throughout the cabin. The EV6 offers a wide array of advanced driver assistance systems3, a remarkable level of connectivity features, as well as Kia’s latest-generation energy-efficient heat pump, which scavenges waste heat from the car’s coolant system. The EV6 is a critical part of the Kia Plan S strategy to launch at least two battery-electric vehicles (BEV) per year and build a full line-up of 14 BEVs by 2027.

Designed for the U.S. market, the Telluride is a head-turning proposition and a sales success. For 2023, the Telluride features new design elements inside and out, highlighted on both the all-new Telluride X-Line and Telluride X-Pro trims, and brings an expanded list of ADAS safety technology for greater peace-of-mind and driver confidence. As Kia’s flagship SUV, the new Telluride is brimming with technology designed to help provide drivers with alerts and assistance and even intervene in certain situations to help avoid collisions. In response to consumer demand, for the 2023 model year, production capacity in West Point, Ga., has increased to 120,000 units.

1 Frequent use of DC Fast charging can negatively impact battery performance and durability, and Kia recommends minimizing use of DC Fast charging.

2 The Onboard Power Generator can be used until the battery’s charge falls to 20 percent.

3 Advanced driver assistance systems are not substitutes for safe driving and may not detect all objects around the vehicle. Always drive safely and use caution.

Kia extends Australian Open partnership to 2028

  • Kia to extend its support of the Australian Open as Major Partner to 2028
  • 130 Kia vehicles to provide safe and efficient transport for players, officials and VIPs at AO23
  • Kia EV6 GT to be showcased at new Grand Slam Oval Booth
  • ‘Make your move’ interactive game experience featuring Rafael Nadal to encourage fan participation to generate power for EV6 fleet
  • ‘Kia Clubhouse’ event for 20 children from Rafa Nadal Foundation to be held for first time at AO

(SEOUL) January 10, 2023 – Kia Corporation has extended its support of the Australian Open to 2028, continuing the brand’s highly successful partnership with the prestigious tennis Grand Slam event that first began in 2002. At the Australian Open 2023 (“AO23”), Kia will highlight its vision for and commitment to sustainable mobility, while inspiring tennis fans through its ‘Movement inspires ideas’ brand purpose.

To mark its continued role as the Major Partner of the Australian Open, and highlight its specific involvement in AO23, Kia hosted an official vehicle handover ceremony at Federation Square in Melbourne on January 10. Kia and Tennis Australia executives, as well as two-time Australian Open champion and Kia Global Ambassador Rafael Nadal, attended the event.

During the ceremony, Kia presented tournament officials with a fleet of 130 vehicles featuring the popular Carnival MPV, Sorento SUV, Sportage SUV and fully electric EV6 crossover. The vehicles will provide safe, comfortable, and efficient transport for players, match officials and VIPs around Melbourne for the full duration of the tournament (January 16-29).

“The Australian Open 2023 marks a special moment in Kia’s longstanding relationship with the tournament, as we delightedly announce the renewal of our partnership for another five years until 2028,” said Artur Martins, Head of Kia’s Global Brand and Customer Experience.

“The event provides the perfect global showcase for Kia’s corporate vision of becoming a sustainable mobility solutions provider,” he added.

Visitors to AO23 will have the opportunity to interact with Kia and learn more about the brand’s commitment to continuing its leadership in sustainable mobility. Kia will showcase its new, high-performance, fully electric EV6 GT at the newly created Grand Slam Oval booth.

At the 5,000-seat Kia Arena, which was inaugurated as the fourth-largest tournament venue at Melbourne Park last year, fans will have the opportunity to follow, quite literally, in their hero’s footsteps as part of the ‘Make your move’ interactive game. As they watch Rafael Nadal in action on a large screen, fans can also attempt to copy the moves of the defending Australian Open champion and generate electricity with their footsteps via a special floormat, which will be later used to help power the Kia EV6 models in the AO23 fleet.

“The unique partnership between Kia and the Australian Open has proven to be one of the most successful in the sporting world and pivotal to the event's ongoing success. We are honored that Kia has chosen to extend its role as the Australian Open Major Partner through 2028,” commented Craig Tiley, Australian Open tournament director.

“It is fascinating to see the latest sustainable technical innovations our friends at Kia bring to the AO every year, and we are excited to see what they have in store for fans at this year’s event,” he added.

In addition to presenting a suite of specially developed digital content brand campaigns during AO23, Kia is also hosting 20 children from the Rafa Nadal Foundation at the Kia Clubhouse event. The visit will enable the children to create unforgettable memories from experiences such as watching AO matches at Rod Laver Arena, participating in a tennis clinic and enjoying a variety of cultural activities in Melbourne.

Ten startups are exhibiting in the ZER01NE pavilion, developing solutions for a diverse range of challenges. These range from digital therapy for children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) to advanced camera technology that provides a human-like wide field of view to smart robots.

“Many of the disruptive breakthroughs that are shaping the transformation of mobility are coming from startups operating outside the automotive industry. Therefore, it is essential that Hyundai Motor Group leaves no avenue unexplored when researching future technologies," said Dr. Yunseong Hwang, Vice President and Head of Open Innovation Execution Group at Hyundai Motor Group.

“The ZER01NE initiative enables the Group to engage with the best and brightest next-generation startups to develop innovative solutions. The influence of the ZER01NE Creative Talent Platform reaches far beyond the automotive and mobility sectors to accelerate the development of technology that will also deliver benefits for humanity as a whole.”

The ZER01NE initiative is presented at CES within an exclusive ZER01NE Pavilion, which features an open-plan layout and an array of interactive exhibitions for guests to enjoy. The pavilion is divided into four zones. The Startup Zone presents ten startup companies. Five of these are presented by the ZER01NE Accelerator program, operated by Hyundai Motor and Kia, which nurtures relationships with and fosters the growth of external startups worldwide. The remaining five startups have been formed internally within the Group, based on ideas and innovations that have come from employees, and are promoted by the Group’s internal ZER01NE Company Builder program.

Each of the external startups has benefitted from participation in the Group’s ZER01NE Accelerator program. This enabled them to apply to one of 38 projects derived by the Group’s internal teams under seven key themes: auto tech, in-car user experience (UX), charging, mobility services, smart logistics, smart construction, and materials. Each startup was limited to one specific project. The successful applicants were provided with a project budget and have the potential to be evaluated for equity investments.

Since the Group introduced the ZER01NE Accelerator in 2018, 125 teams from 11 affiliates of the Group and 96 startups have worked together on 80 collaborative projects. This has led to 51 startups successfully receiving equity investments from the Group.

The five startups participating in the ZER01NE Accelerator program under the ZER01NE Team are eMOTIV, 60Hz, Argosvision, Cellplus Korea and XYZ.

The Group also encourages its employees to think creatively and get involved in developing pioneering ideas. The Group’s ZER01NE Company Builder initiative is designed to take the very best of those ideas and progress them further. The program provides selected ideas with up to 240,000 USD of funding for development expenses. Following a year of development, the ideas undergo spin-off deliberation with the potential to become an external-facing entity or provide in-house commercialization. Employees can also enlist the guidance of external experts to help develop their startup teams and their ideas.

The five startups under the ZER01NE Company Builder program exhibiting at the ZER01NE pavilion at CES 2023 are VODA AI, Difon, Fittrix, Wondermove and AutoL.

Within the ZER01NE Pavilion at CES, each of the 10 startups has its own individual exhibition area, where visitors can meet personnel and learn more about the innovations that the startup is developing. Further information on the ZER01NE initiative is provided in the pavilion INFO Zone, where visitors can participate in Q&A sessions. The ZER01NE Zone, which is spread across three individual areas, provides further information and brand identity touch points.

Looking forward, Hyundai Motor and Kia will continue their investment in and commitment to the ZER01NE Creative Platform as it nurtures early-stage startups and transforms their concepts into reality. This will enable the Group to cement its lead in fields such as AI, Smart Mobility, Smart City, New Energy, Logistics and Robotics.  As always, the reach of ZER01NE will extend much further than the automotive and mobility sectors, as it seeks to deliver technological solutions that benefit all of humanity.

Proven formula

Hyundai Motor Group has successfully executed numerous startup collaborations in recent years. In 2017, the Group introduced technology developed by vehicle air quality management solutions provider Embiome into its factories in India. A spin-off company of the Group, Embiome developed a unique microorganism coating for vehicle air conditioner cores to keep the air within the system clean. This year, the technology will be introduced to all the Group’s vehicles globally.

The group’s determination to take a fully sustainable approach to battery production, recycling and reuse is fortified by its support for Korean mobility startup Poen. The company specializes in giving new life to discarded EV batteries and participates in the development and quality analysis of batteries for new vehicles.

The Group will continue to leave no stone unturned in its pursuit of the very best and most innovative technologies to develop sustainable mobile solutions and benefit humanity. This approach is typified by the latest 10 startups promoted through the ZER01NE Creative Platform at CES 2023 and the pioneering solutions they are developing.

The 10 startups displaying within the ZER01NE pavilion at CES 2023 are:

KIA SPORTAGE HYBRID AND KIA TELLURIDE NAMED AMONG THE CAR CONNECTION’S BEST CAR TO BUY 2023 AWARDS

Korean automaker’s world-class SUVs dominate competitors in two award categories

  • 2023 Sportage Hybrid chosen as Best Economy Car to Buy
  • 2023 Telluride earns title of Best Family Car to Buy for third consecutive year

IRVINE, CA, January 4, 2023 – The editors at The Car Connection (TCC), a subsidiary of Internet Brands Automotive, have chosen two Kia vehicles among their Best Car To Buy 2023 awards. As the Kia brand’s first major accolade in the new year, the 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid SUV has been named Best Economy Car To Buy 2023 and the 2023 Kia Telluride has been named Best Family Car To Buy 2023. This year marks the third time in a row the wildly popular Telluride has earned praise from TCC as Best Family Car To Buy (2022 and 2021). And prior to those wins, the big, bold and boxy SUV earned the overall Best Car To Buy 2020 designation.

“Having two vehicles recognized this year by the editorial staff of The Car Connection is an outstanding achievement that highlights our robust and award-winning SUV lineup,” said Steven Center, COO & EVP, Kia America. “The Telluride’s win validates our expertise in designing vehicles that are stylish, comfortable, and feature-rich, while the Sportage Hybrid furthers our value and efficiency stories. We’re proud that each has made such a positive impression with both customers and industry observers, alike.”

According to TCC, Best Car To Buy 2023 focuses on the everyday vehicle that best balances value, fuel efficiency, safety ratings, interior spaciousness, quality, design, and driving dynamics. Editors choose the winners after a year of test driving more than 100 new 2023 vehicles priced under $50,000.

"The 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid makes a compelling case for value, with a deep list of standard features, excellent crash-test scores, and especially with an EPA-estimated fuel economy1 rating of 43 mpg combined for the FWD version and 38 mpg combined for the AWD version,” said Martin Padgett, editorial director, Internet Brands Automotive. “The 2023 Kia Telluride still sets the benchmark for three-row crossover SUVs. It’s a great family vehicle, one with lots of room for people and cargo, excellent safety ratings, and a list of standard equipment that includes one of the industry’s leading warranties."

The 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid paves a new pathway for Kia’s electrification efforts. At the same time, the refreshed 2023 Kia Telluride arrives with design enhancements inside and out, upgrades in convenience technology, and two new trims: the stylish X-Line and rugged X-Pro.

    • “Organization must be structured in a way that the views of younger employees are reflected in the decision-making process”

SEOUL, January 3, 2023 Hyundai Motor Group held a New Year town hall meeting today at its Namyang R&D Center attended by executives and employees of Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation.

In their first face-to-face New Year meeting in three years, Euisun Chung, Executive Chair of Hyundai Motor Group met with employees to share their New Year's messages and deliver strategic direction and vision for 2023. Jaehoon Chang, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, Ho Sung Song, President and CEO of Kia Corporation, President Chung Kook Park, Head of Hyundai-Kia’s R&D Division, and Chang Song, President and Head of Transportation-as-a-Service (TaaS) and Vehicle SW Tech Unit at Hyundai Motor Group also joined the meeting. The executives actively engaged in communication while responding to employees’ questions.

"We will not fear risks and only be reactive to changes. Instead, we will lead the future by being one step ahead and create opportunities out of crises,” Executive Chair Chung highlighted during the meeting. “To this end, 2023 will be the year we establish ‘trust by taking on challenges and making a new leap through change’ to overcome the difficult business environment and move forward together toward a better future."

Preempting its continued leadership in the era of innovation in 2023, Hyundai Motor Group presented ‘trust through challenge and stability through change’ as a key topic and a new standard for the group.

This year’s meeting venue and town hall setting also reflect the Group leadership’s will for taking on challenges and change. The Namyang R&D Center is the hub for Hyundai-Kia’s key R&D activities, where the development of vehicles and proprietary technologies for engines and powertrain takes place. The center is now becoming the backbone of the Group's technology, driving quality-based innovation and transformation for the future.

The interactive town hall setting provided a stage for the Group’s key executives to explain the strategies for 2023, allowing them to actively engage with employees. Jaehoon Chang, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor and Ho Sung Song of Kia President and CEO, each elaborated on the companies’ business strategy and directions. Chung Kook Park, President and Head of Hyundai-Kia R&D Center provided the vision for research and development while Chang Song, Head of TaaS Division, presented the vision for Software Defined Vehicles (SDV).

"We must overcome the status quo and create a corporate culture that is proactive and ever-changing,” added Executive Chair Chung, emphasizing the need for proactive change.

Following the town hall meeting, Mr. Chung stayed at the Namyang R&D center, spending further time with employees to discuss various topics.

Establishing 'trust’ by taking on challengesConstantly embarking on challenges for electrification, software, and new businesses

Executive Chair Chung opened his New Year remarks by expressing: “We are nearing the end of this long tunnel of COVID-19. So, it’s great to be here in person to kick off the New Year at the Namyang R&D Center, the heart of our innovation and where we take on challenges.

“The impact of COVID-19 is far and wide, with increased interest rates, inflation, and fluctuation in exchange rates. There are also ongoing geopolitical risks. All these factors are leading to greater economic uncertainty,” he added.

Mr. Chung said employees should pursue establishing trust by taking on challenges and ensuring stability by achieving change as a means to overcome business uncertainties and create a better future. He affirmed that the Group is committed to building trust by taking on challenges in diverse areas, including electrification, software and new businesses. He added that the Group will be a first mover to lead markets by securing top talent and sparing no effort to develop new technologies in a wide range of innovation.

On electrification, the Executive Chair expressed: “Last year, two cars that use our dedicated full electric vehicle platform E-GMP – the IONIQ 5 and EV6 were named ‘World Car of the Year’ and ‘European Car of the Year’ respectively and were among the top 5 EVs sold globally, demonstrating a successful start to our transition to electrification.”

Executive Chair Chung continued: “In 2023, we will continue to develop and provide innovative vehicles to solidify our leadership position in the global EV market and continue the shift to electrification.”

The Group plans to launch various EV models this year, ranging from light to flagship, such as Kia’s EV9 electric SUV as well as Ray EV and Hyundai Kona EV to expand opportunities for providing diverse EV experiences to customers while strengthening the Group’s top-tier position in the global EV market.

Mr. Chung also accentuated the importance of software. “Company systems, including R&D, must be upgraded to achieve a ‘software-centered transition.’ This will enable us to secure the capability to produce flawless Software Defined Vehicles (SDV) and take the lead among the global competition."

This encapsulates the strategic effort of the Group to offer comfortable freedom of movement and innovative user experiences to customers by transforming all models into SDVs by 2025.

Hyundai-Kia will apply the Over-The-Air (OTA) software updates function to all models sold in the global market by 2025 and provide personalized services, such as software updates and subscriptions. By establishing a data platform, the Group will connect, and process various data generated throughout the car's life cycle to provide continuous innovative services.

Executive Chair also specified plans for new business areas, including autonomous driving, future mobility, robotics, energy, and new materials to secure future growth engines for the Group.

“In autonomous driving technology, we are planning to launch models capable of autonomous driving Level 3 on highways in Korea. We’re also planning to commercialize robotaxis with autonomous driving Level 4 in North America," said Mr. Chung.

In the first half of the year, the Group will introduce Genesis luxury brand G90 and Kia EV9 equipped with Highway Driving Pilot (HDP) feature. This Level 3 capability on highways and vehicle-only roads is the first step towards fully autonomous driving, where drivers take control of the vehicle only in emergency situations.

In addition, through Motional, the Group’s autonomous driving technology JV with Aptiv, it will cooperate with car-sharing companies, including Uber in the U.S. to commercialize Level 4 IONIQ 5 robotaxis that operates without driver engagement.

Speaking further on the future of mobility, Mr. Chung commented: “In the area of future mobility, we will bring to market Purpose Built Vehicles (PBV) that meet the mobility needs of people and things. We will also develop a prototype vehicle for Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) and reinforce our leadership position as a Mobility Service Provider.”

Having launched the PBV Niro Plus of Kia last year, Hyundai Motor Group plans to further expand the number of PBV models this year and launch a dedicated PBV model based on a skateboard platform by 2025. The Group is also accelerating the development of AAM vehicles by signing MOUs with major partners such as Rolls-Royce and Safran.

Mr. Chung also elaborated on the Group’s ambitions in the field of robotics. "We will strengthen cooperation among the Robotics Lab, Boston Dynamics, and BD-AI Institute to complete the value chain to provide a human-friendly product that supports the well-being and convenience of humanity."

Hyundai Motor Group established the Boston Dynamics AI Institute last year with plans to focus on securing high-level AI capabilities to create synergies in various future new business areas, including robotics.

“We will also expand to new energy areas such as Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and foster development of safer, super high-strength steel products as well as smarter logistics solutions to continue to secure future growth engines for the Group,” Executive Chair Chung added.

The Group is actively entering new energy business areas such as hydrogen production and electric power trading brokerage and SMRs, and is also accelerating the development of high-strength steel products and new materials for future mobility.

Establishing stronger trust through the results of taking on challengesbuilding trust with  customers, society and Group members

Mr. Chung reiterated: “We must take on challenges based on trust, and the positive results must lead to even stronger trust,” emphasizing the trust of customers, trust of society, and trust among colleagues.”

He also made clear that receiving the trust of customers is the Group’s foremost priority, stating: “No great product or technology is complete without the trust of our customers.”

Executive Chair Chung highlighted quality and safety as the most important factors of customer trust and advocated: “We must remain committed to our pledge toward quality and safety, and only then will our customers believe in us and support our path to change and growth.”

"Quality is a priority for all of us,” he continued. “From product planning to design, production, sales, and after-sales maintenance, all teams and employees must place quality and the customer as the top priority. We must all go above and beyond to earn the respect and loyalty of our customers.”

He also expressed his strong commitment to safety. “Our commitment to safety is not just about meeting external regulations. It’s about recognizing the priceless value of life and the principle of always making the best effort, which drives us to place safety of our customers and employees as the foremost priority."

The Group is putting extra effort into quality and safety management. Last year, Kia, Genesis and Hyundai Motor swept the top places in the J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study, the prestigious quality study in the U.S. The Group’s new models have also been recognized for providing the highest level of quality and safety in the world by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and Euro New Car Assessment Program (NCAP).

Furthermore, Hyundai Motor and Kia are further strengthening global safety management by appointing a Chief Safety Officer (CSO) and expanding safety-related organizations in their facilities around the globe.

Mr. Chung also underlined the need for the trust of society. Under the Group’s sustainability message, ‘The Right Move for the Right Future,’ “We will work together with society for the environment and co-prosper with humanity by setting a good example for others.”

Hyundai Motor Group is supporting various social responsibility management activities to fulfill carbon neutrality and deliver a sustainable future for the next generation, the environment and communities.

By 2040, the Group’s automotive brands plan to offer only zero-carbon EVs in major markets and are promoting projects to create and restore marine ecosystems, such as restoring tidal flats and collecting and recycling marine plastics. The Group’s affiliates also plan to replace the electricity needed at workplaces around the world with 100% renewable energy.

The Group supports small and medium-sized auto parts companies’ transition to electrification, operates support programs for co-growth, and is also engaging in activities to benefit future generations and vulnerable groups, through initiatives such as Hyundai Motor’s ‘For Tomorrow’ campaign and Kia’s ‘Greenlight Project.’

“To seek challenges and to make change happen, we need to trust in ourselves and each other,” Mr. Chung affirmed in his appeal for even greater levels of trust among colleagues. “By taking pride in the good we’re doing for humanity, I hope you communicate openly and rely on one another and strengthen trust among peers in the New Year.”

Making a new leap through proactive change the need to create an active corporate culture that continues to change

Executive Chair Chung emphasized the importance of creating stability through a proactive change in his address. He shared his thoughts on changes in corporate culture and his belief that employees’ creativity and proactive change are indispensable for stable and sustainable growth.

“In order to achieve sustainable growth, we must overcome the status quo and create a corporate culture that is proactive and ever-changing,” he said. “Just as stagnant water quickly goes stale, a culture that does not evolve will be easily contaminated and broken. So, let us not be complacent, but make efforts toward new goals. To make a leap toward a new future, we will foster a culture where bold, new attempts are encouraged without the fear of outcome..”

“We must put an end to any meaningless tasks in our current way of working, and maximize the efficient use of time and human resources through prioritization,” he added. “I hope all of you will also evaluate your tasks and remove any unnecessary formalities that waste valuable time and energy and make smart, flexible work a part of your everyday life.”

He continued : “Let us be bold and not afraid of new challenges; be assertive and proactive in all matters; and value our peers and work closely with open communication. We must create a workplace where employees that work with diligence and enthusiasm are acknowledged and rewarded and can pursue their dreams.”

Mr. Chung also presented the importance of the younger generation. “We must heed the voices of our future customers, particularly the younger generation. Our organization must be structured in a way that the views of younger employees are reflected in the decision-making process, and we must communicate closely with them and understand their thoughts and values.”

Above all, Mr. Chung expressed: “I, along with other leaders at HMG, will lead by example and create a workplace that allows our employees to work freely and be respected and acknowledged, based on principles and common sense. We will promote diversity and carry out HR decisions and systematic improvements to create a dynamic and versatile corporate culture and remove any shortcomings from the past.”

In closing, Executive Chair Euisun Chung said, “Amid uncertain external circumstances and the rapidly changing industry paradigm, the Group, together, will continue to build trust by taking on challenges, and change proactively with a positive can-do spirit and thorough preparedness to make a new leap and achieve sustainable growth.”

“Let us all move forward on this journey ‘Together for a better future’.”
