IRVINE, Calif., November 23, 2020 -- Kia Motors America today welcomed the sophomore class of the brand’s Great Unknowns Scholarship, comprised of 16 first-year college students from across the U.S. The recipients were chosen based on financial need, academic performance, and the demonstrable ways they make a difference by “giving it everything” within their local school systems and communities. This marks the second year of the scholarship, which commenced in 2019 with the unveiling of Kia’s “Give It Everything” philosophy in the U.S.

With remote learning, abridged or outright cancelled schedules, these students didn’t miss a step when it came to their education and making a difference in their communities.”

This year’s scholarship recipients are enrolled at a variety of colleges and universities, including: Harvard University, Tulane University, Montana State University, Cleveland Institute of Art, Vanderbilt University, University of Florida, Waynesburg University, Cal State Northridge, SUNY New Paltz, Henderson State University, Michigan State University, University of Connecticut, New York University, University of New Mexico, Mercer University and Virginia Tech.

The sophomore class of The Great Unknowns scholarship recipients have declared majors in many of today’s most competitive disciplines, including, public health, engineering, arts and humanities, computer science, mechanical engineering, architecture and interior design, and pre-med and biochemistry.  A video introducing the students and how they “Give It Everything” can be found here and more information on The Great Unknowns Scholarship program and the application process can be found at https://www.kia.com/us/en/give-it-everything.

KIA UNVEILS TWO RUGGED X-LINE SORENTO CONCEPTS BUILT FOR THE WILD

Aggressive Custom SUVs Signal Brand’s Focus on Adventure, Capability and Trail Readiness

  • Sorento Yosemite Edition aims at exploring high-elevation locales and mountain living
  • Sorento Zion Edition is a dune-defeating desert escape vehicle

IRVINE, Calif., November 20, 2020 – Since the arrival of the award-winning Telluride last year and the head-turning Seltos in early 2020, Kia Motors America (KMA) has had its sights on building a robust and reimagined SUV line-up.  As the next step in this capability-focused product strategy, the all-new 2021 Sorento is poised to bring customers a new level of trail-ready toughness not yet seen from the brand.  To celebrate this rugged personality, KMA unveiled a pair of custom-built Sorento SUVs – the Yosemite Edition and the Zion Edition – during the brand’s virtual national dealer meeting this week.  The two wilderness-themed SUVs build upon the production Sorento X-Line model, a variant that highlights off-road prowess with unique 20-inch wheels, increased ride height to 8.3-in., improved approach/departure angles, more advanced AWD with snow-mode, and a more robust roof rack than the outgoing Sorento.

Customized by LGE-CTE Motorsports of San Dimas, CA, each vehicle receives its namesake and inspiration from the outdoor environments found in America’s great national parks.  The Sorento Yosemite Edition is a dream build for high elevation adventuring and mountain living, painted in “Pine Green” in a matte finish with gloss and matte black accents.  The Sorento Zion Edition is a desert escape vehicle made for stomping dunes, painted in “Desert Sand” in a gloss finish with gloss black accents.

Both feature custom fender flares that sit atop 20-inch wheels and 32-inch all-terrain tires. Body armor includes custom skid plates and brush guards in a satin chrome finish.  For packing gear, the Yosemite edition wears a brawny roof rack, while the Zion Edition comes equipped with a full-length cargo top.  The duo will be making special appearances around the country to capture the imagination of adventurers and enthusiasts, alike.

While most customers will not take their Sorento to the level of customization seen on the Yosemite and Zion Editions, many have shown a penchant for personalizing their Kia SUVs.  To satisfy that desire, Kia will offer an exciting range of port-installed and dealer-installed accessories.  Customers can tailor their Sorento to their lifestyle and needs with attachments such as roof rack crossbars, tow hitches for trailers, and side steps for easier load-in of toys.

The 2021 Kia Sorento will arrive in showrooms beginning in November.

  • Style, performance and value continue to impress expert judges

IRVINE, Calif., November 19, 2020 – The Telluride has been named to Car and Driver’s 10Best list for 2021, marking the second year in a row the big and bold SUV has earned a spot among the esteemed group of vehicles. The highly regarded awards recognize the smartest, most entertaining cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans on sale today.

“We’re excited to include the Kia Telluride in Car and Driver’s 10Best for the second year in a row,” said Sharon Carty, editor-in-chief of Car and Driver. “We remain impressed with how many features you get for Telluride’s base price of $33,160, that it is a pleasure to drive and even how adept it is off road. We find ourselves recommending the Telluride over and over to friends shopping for large SUVs, which is a sign of how much we like it.”

We look forward to being a mainstay on this list for years to come.”

For 2021, the Telluride received minor enhancements along with a special appearance package, the Nightfall Edition.

Hyundai Motor Group to launch NVIDIA DRIVE ‘connected car’ infotainment and AI platform across all future Hyundai, Kia and Genesis models

  • All new models from Hyundai Motor Group brands to feature NVIDIA DRIVE platform as standard, starting from 2022
  • NVIDIA technology enhances new connected car operating system (ccOS)
  • ccOS developed in-house by Hyundai Motor Group for all future models
  • Offers perpetually updatable, software-defined in-vehicle infotainment systems and potential for a wide range of ‘connected car’ services

Hyundai Motor Group and NVIDIA announced today the roll-out of the NVIDIA DRIVE ‘connected car’ platform across all new models from Hyundai, Kia and Genesis from 2022 onwards.

The technical cooperation with NVIDIA, the global leader in accelerated computing, will enable Hyundai Motor Group to develop high-performance ‘connected car’ computing systems for its next-generation models. From entry-level to premium vehicles, all future models will feature in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems powered by NVIDIA DRIVE as standard. NVIDIA DRIVE includes a hardware and software stack, enabling Hyundai Motor Group’s IVI systems to combine audio, video, navigation, connectivity and artificial intelligence (AI)-based ‘connected car’ services.

Using the high-performance, energy-efficient NVIDIA DRIVE platform for its future models will allow the Group’s brands to offer customers seamless and continuously enhanced in-vehicle AI user experiences. Hyundai, Kia and Genesis customers will therefore benefit from a feature-rich, software-defined AI user experience that is perpetually updateable.

Hyundai Motor Group has been working with NVIDIA since 2015, and the NVIDIA DRIVE platform already underpins the advanced IVI systems found in the Genesis GV80 and G80. The companies have also been collaborating on an advanced digital cockpit, due to be launched in late 2021. Today’s announcement takes the relationship further, as Hyundai Motor Group lays the foundations for IVI systems that can support a wide range of future apps and features, across its entire model line-up.

“NVIDIA brought consumer electronic functionality and a graphics-rich user interface to infotainment systems more than a decade ago,” said Ali Kani, Vice President of Autonomous Vehicles at NVIDIA. “Now, we are once again transforming these systems through the power of AI, helping Hyundai Motor Group increase safety and value, along with enhancing customer satisfaction, throughout the lifetime of the vehicle.”

“At Hyundai Motor Group, we are committed to delivering greater value, safety, functionality and enjoyment over the lifetime of the car,” said Paul Choo, Senior Vice President of Electronics Tech Unit at Hyundai Motor Group. “The NVIDIA DRIVE platform is proven – it is scalable, energy-efficient and has the performance to support our next generation of software-defined vehicles.”

Partnership with NVIDIA enables creation of new ccOS

The partnership with NVIDIA will enable Hyundai Motor Group to roll out its new 'connected car operating system' (ccOS) in future models. Developed in-house by Hyundai Motor Group, the new ccOS will bring together the large amount of data generated by the vehicle and its network of sensors, as well as external connected car data centers, providing a more pleasurable and convenient experience for the driver and occupants.

ccOS also incorporates an integrated architecture for a new ‘connected car service platform’ (ccSP). ccSP is an open platform enabling a wide range of partners to provide relevant services to owners.

The ccOS will use NVIDIA’s software frameworks to implement four core IT competencies:

  • ‘High-performance computing’, using NVIDIA GPUs to process large amounts of data inside and outside the vehicles and optimize system performance to support advanced IT technologies, such as deep learning.
  • ‘Seamless computing’, which provides uninterrupted service regardless of the vehicle's online or offline state. The vehicle connects with the surrounding infrastructure and smart devices to bring the user experience from external devices into the vehicle environment.
  • ‘Intelligent computing’, providing intelligent customized services by properly identifying the driver's intentions and condition.
  • ‘Secure computing’, protecting the system by monitoring in-vehicle and external networks and isolating data associated with vehicle safety.

Furthermore, recent breakthroughs in AI and accelerated computing have opened the door for next-generation vehicles to benefit from new functionality, capabilities and enhanced safety features that can be added after the car is purchased. With a centralized, software-defined computer architecture, future vehicles can be updated throughout their lives to feature the latest in advanced digital cockpit technology, as well as other features.

Hyundai Motor Group will announce more specific details of its upcoming IVI and ccOS capabilities in line with future announcements relating to specific vehicles.
