KIA MOTORS' ALL-NEW K5 FLIES THROUGH THE AIR IN BREATHTAKING “TRIPLE THREAT STUNT”

IRVINE, Calif., July 31, 2020 – To introduce the brand’s most powerful midsize sedan ever, Kia Motors America (KMA) executed a daring “Triple Threat Stunt” performed by professional stunt drivers on a track outside Atlanta. The Triple Threat Stunt featured two turbocharged K5 models sailing through the air in opposite directions as a third K5 model slid into position below the airborne pair. The Triple Threat Stunt served as the kick-off of a multi-channel marketing campaign in support of the all-new 2021 K5 midsize sedan.

True to KMA’s “Give It Everything” philosophy, the wide-reaching, real-time Triple Threat Stunt was designed to reset expectations by placing the K5 in situations previously untouched in this traditionally conservative category. Directed by Darrin Prescott, action unit director on some of Hollywood’s most action-packed films including Baby Driver, Ford Vs. Ferrari, Drive, John Wick, Black Panther, and The Bourne Ultimatum, the stunt was streamed live online and provided car enthusiasts with a virtual look at the capability of the all-new K5 midsize sedan.

In addition to Prescott, the Triple Threat Stunt featured professional driver Collete Davis and actor Jeremy Ray Valdez, as event co-hosts and professional drivers Sean Graham and father-daughter stunt driving duo Jalil Jay and Brionna Lynch.  As Graham maneuvered, steered, and slid his K5 into position with stop-on-a-dime accuracy, two K5s driven by the Lynches, sped down straightaways towards one another before each hit a ramp becoming airborne and sailing over Graham’s K5.  The “Triple Threat Stunt” ended with all three K5 models, and their respective drivers, safe and sound back on terra firma.

IRVINE, Calif., July 27, 2020 – Kia Motors America (KMA) today is kicking off a multi-channel marketing campaign in support of the all-new 2021 K5. True to KMA’s “Give It Everything” philosophy, the wide-reaching, real-time “K5 Live,” effort will reset expectations by placing Kia’s most powerful mid-size sedan in situations previously untouched in this traditionally conservative category.   

The campaign jumpstarts on Tuesday, July 28, at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT with a livestream event on Twitter. Billed “Triple Threat,” the one-of-a-kind showcase will be directed by Darrin Prescott, action unit director on some of Hollywood’s most action-packed films including Baby Driver, Ford Vs. Ferrari, Drive, John Wick, Black Panther, and The Bourne Ultimatum, and will provide car enthusiasts with a virtual look at the capability of the all-new K5.

In addition to Prescott, “Triple Threat” features professional driver Collete Davis and actor Jeremy Ray Valdez, who will serve as event co-hosts, and stunt drivers Sean Graham and father-daughter stunt driving duo Jalil Jay and Brionna Lynch. Each stunt driver will get behind the wheel of a K5 and put the vehicle’s sleek design, on-road prowess, and dynamic performance to the ultimate test. The national campaign also includes a robust social media presence and national broadcast components that will be announced later in August.

“The all-new K5 is a completely new direction for Kia and the midsize sedan category overall, so we needed a marketing campaign that was as dynamic and action packed as the vehicle itself,” said Russell Wager, director, marketing operations, Kia Motors America. “By combining live events with more traditional elements, the K5 and Kia will be presented in ways never seen before and sure to change perceptions of the midsize sedan category.”

Representing one of the biggest leaps forward between generations in recent automotive history, the K5 celebrates a bold new chapter in Kia’s story. Featuring a sleek design, all-new safety and performance enhancing technology and turbocharged engines, the all-new K5 is available in Kia showrooms nationwide.  

Prior to the Live event on Tuesday, K5 digital elements will be included when the Television Academy announces their nominations for the 72nd Emmy® Awards on Tuesday, July 28 at 11:30 a.m. ET/8:30 a.m. PT streaming live on Emmys.com.  This year’s Emmy winners will be revealed LIVE  during the 72nd Emmy Awards telecast on Sunday, September 20 on ABC.

Additional elements of the integrated campaign include print, digital, social and broadcast components that start on July 28.  National broadcast advertising will launch on September 1, and additional social media and video components will supplement the campaign and run throughout month.

KIA MOTORS RELEASES THE BLOCKBUSTER MOVIE EVENT OF THE SUMMER

             

The Critics at Kia are calling “The Features Film” an “Adrenaline-Fueled Rollercoaster That’s Innovative, Imaginative and Thought-Provoking”

·       13-part film debuting on YouTube blurs the line between automotive content and Hollywood storytelling 

IRVINE, Calif., July 20, 2020 – A year without the biggest tinsel town blockbusters? The creative team at Kia Motors America (KMA) doesn’t think so.

From the producers who introduced the world to dancing hamsters comes the first must-see cinematic experience of the Summer. This just released epic adventure, entitled The Features Film,  presents automotive content in a whole new genre and includes a virtual who’s-who of Kia’s A-list automotive talent sharing lead actor duties. 

Inspired by noir thrillers from Hollywood’s golden age, The Features Film follows the story of a young man with a heart of gold who got mixed up with the wrong crowd, eventually becoming a getaway driver for the mob. Unfolding over the course of one night, our hero enlists eight A-List Kia models – Forte, Soul, Stinger, Niro EV, Niro HEV, Seltos, Sportage and Sorento – to help him break free from the seedy underworld and turn his life around. 

“We’ll miss going to the movies this Summer and catching the latest Hollywood blockbusters, so Kia took this as an opportunity to provide a similar viewing experience, but with a plot twist you never saw coming,” said Russell Wager, director, marketing operations, Kia Motors America. “With many automakers offering the same or similar vehicle options, The Features Film is a unique, entertaining and fun way to differentiate ourselves and reach consumers directly with highly creative content.” 

Making cameo appearances throughout the movie are available key features, including: Remote Start; Remote Climate Control; Rear Cross-Traffic Alert; Rear-Camera Display; Smart Trunk; Mood Lighting; Premium Audio Systems; Lane Keeping Assist, Long-Distance EV & Hybrid range; Cargo Space; Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist; and 365-Turbocharged engines, with each playing a pivotal role and adding nuanced layers of convenience, safety, technology and comfort throughout the film. 

The Features Film from Kia radically shifts the paradigm of what car feature videos can be. Produced by Kia’s creative agency of record, David&Goliath, these videos elevate the expected demonstrations by placing vehicle features at the heart of a high-octane action film. By taking this unexpected approach, Kia made the feature-demo videos more engaging and highly watchable – yet still hard working enough to educate potential shoppers. The film is divided into a series of 13 individual :15-second pre-roll videos and is also available as a six-minute longform film that seamlessly takes the viewer on this cinematic journey. In addition, a :30 trailer and :60-second teaser are available.

KIA MOTORS’ “TELLURIDERS” CONTINUE DELIVERING FACE SHIELDS TO HOSPITALS AND MEDICAL FACILITIES NATIONWIDE

Latest Delivery Made to Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C.

IRVINE, Calif., July 2, 2020 – Kia Motors continues to “Accelerate The Good” through the donation of personal protective equipment (PPE) to hospitals and medical facilities nationwide. This week, the Kia “Telluriders” delivered face shields to Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C. The deliveries are part of Kia’s Accelerate The Good initiatives, which includes ongoing face shield donations to medical facilities not only in the metro Washington, D.C. area, but also to facilities throughout Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, and Southern California. The face shields are assembled at Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia in West Point and the brand will donate more than 500,000 face shields nationwide to help in the fight against COVID-19. In addition, Kia donated $1 million to non-profit partners that assist America’s homeless youth population.

Light Truck Sales Up 9.5-Percent Year-Over-Year On A Selling Date Adjusted Basis; Retail-Only Sales Nearly Equivalent to June 2019 Despite Shortage of Key Products

IRVINE, Calif., July 1, 2020 – Kia Motors America’s June sales total of 47,870 vehicles featured retail-only sales within one percent of the June 2019 mark despite a shortage of the award-winning Telluride SUV and other select models. In the month that saw Kia rank number one in the industry in J.D. Power’s Initial Quality Study, the Sorento SUV led the way while the Sportage SUV delivered its best-ever retail performance in June.

“Despite the pandemic, demand for Kia’s world-class offerings such as the Telluride remains extraordinarily high. In fact, on a selling day adjusted basis, Kia’s retail sales were up nearly 6-percent year-over-year,” said Bill Peffer, vice president, sales operations, Kia Motors America. “Kia has once again topped the industry in initial quality and we are ready to begin the next chapter of our product story with the arrival of the all-new 2021 K5, which has been very well received by the media thus far, and consumers are already reaching out for details on future availability.”
