Hyundai Motor Group Reveals Personal Electric Scooter Capable of 20km Range

(SEOUL) August 27, 2019 – Hyundai Motor Group has developed a new prototype electric scooter. Building on its initial concept presented at CES 2017, the new model boasts rear-wheel drive, a highly-capable lithium battery and stylish front and rear lights.

The latest concept features in future Hyundai Motor Group plans to enable first- and last-mile mobility through integrating the scooter with future Hyundai and Kia vehicles. When mounted on a vehicle, the scooter is charged automatically using electricity produced while driving, ensuring that the user can complete their journey seamlessly.

The 2019 model’s shift from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive is key in enhancing safety and stability as it positions weight near the rear. Additionally, the Group’s engineers have added suspension to the front wheel to provide a smoother ride, even on rough surfaces.

DongJin Hyun, head of Hyundai Motor Group Robotics Team, said: “This is the vehicle-mounted personal scooter which could be featured in future Hyundai Motor Group vehicles. We want to make our customers’ lives as easy and enjoyable as possible. Our personal electric scooter makes first- and last-mile commuting a joy, while helping to reduce congestion and emissions in city centers.”

The latest version of Hyundai Motor Group’s electric scooter features a 10.5 Ah lithium battery. This enables the scooter to achieve a top speed of 20km per hour and is sufficient to power the scooter for around 20km on a single charge.

Weighing around 7.7kg, the scooter is highly portable, while its unique and compact tri-folding design means it is lighter and more compact than any similar product. Enhancing its usability further, it features a digital display that shows battery status and speed; while, for nighttime riding, the new scooter is equipped with two stylishly-curved front LED headlights, and two rear tail lamps.

Looking at further potential development, the Group plans to install a regenerative braking system to increase the scooter’s range by 7%.

The ongoing efforts to provide customers with last mile transportation align with trends highlighted in research data by global consultancy, McKinsey & Company. It showed that the ‘Last Mile Mobility’ market in the US, Europe, and China is expected to grow to 500 Billion USD by 2030.

IRVINE, Calif., August 13, 2019 – Kia Motors America (KMA) celebrates a double Autopacific win, as the 2019 Forte sedan and the 2019 Cadenza have been named segment winners in the 2019 Vehicle Satisfaction Awards (VSA). The Forte outranked some of the segment’s toughest rivals in the compact car segment, while the Cadenza beat out industry stalwarts in the large car category.

AutoPacific’s VSAs identify the most satisfying vehicles on the market, based on more than 50,000 responses from owners of 2018 as well as 2019 cars and light trucks, which were purchased from September through December 2018. These responses measure owner satisfaction by evaluating more than 33 separate attributes ranging from interior comfort and styling to fuel economy and performance.

Updated Mobile-First Design Provides Improved Immersive Customer Experience

  • Builds on Kia’s “Give It Everything” brand promise by delivering the most comprehensive online automotive experience

IRVINE, Calif., August 12, 2019 – Kia Motors America (KMA) today introduced a completely redesigned customer web site, www.Kia.com, which has been updated to provide consumers with a new and easier way to navigate their online experience.  The site, which provides both model-specific and historical brand information, is segmented to make it easier for consumers to find the exact Kia vehicle they’re looking for based not only on model category such as sedan or crossover, but also on individual feature preferences such as leather seat trims or all-wheel drive. The comprehensive redesign, which started in December 2017, is the result of more than 18-months’ worth of concepting, customer research and consumer testing on the site’s functionality, design and usability.

“In this ever-changing digital world, we wanted to ensure that Kia and Kia.com were ahead of the curve by providing customers with solutions based on their individual needs and ones that instantly and intuitively support their shopping decisions,” said Michael Cole, chief operating officer and EVP, Kia Motors America. “We also wanted to give consumers insight into our “Give It Everything” brand history and connect with them on a personal level through pages that detail the people behind the brand.”

The new website, developed for the U.S. market, was redesigned for today's consumers who demand the ability to research and shop for the vehicle of their choice in a targeted way that provides all the pertinent information on one screen.  Feature “call-outs” populate all models that offer a particular feature such as “seven passenger capability”, while the “Buying Made Easy” page provides as close to an end-to-end customer experience as possible.  This function seamlessly populates all model, trim level, local dealership, inventory and test-drive availability, as well as financing options and payment calculators, on one page. 

“Our goal is to provide the best online experience,” continued Cole. “With this new approach, we can improve customer engagement based on interactions with the site and use that intelligence to refine and enhance the digital experience even more in the future.”
