KIA MOTORS DELIVERS 15,000 MEDICAL USE FACE SHIELDS TO THE GEORGIA EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY

Protective Face Shields Assembled at Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia Will Be Distributed to Healthcare Workers Across the State

  • Using CDC social distancing guidelines, a portion of Kia’s U.S. plant has transformed into a specialty production area
  • Production of personal protection equipment expands Kia’s “Accelerate the Good” efforts to help people impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic

IRVINE, Calif., April 23, 2020 – In response to a shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Kia Motors has delivered an initial supply of 15,000 face shields produced at Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia (KMMG) to the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA).

“Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia asked how they could help, and then stepped up to provide life-saving equipment for the heroes on the front lines in the battle against COVID-19,” said Georgia Department of Economic Development Commissioner, Pat Wilson. “We thank Kia once again for being such a strong partner in our Georgia-made family.”

Face shields are being assembled by paid volunteers from KMMG, which has implemented a series of safety measures to protect team members, including: conducting temperature scans, providing face masks and gloves, and staggering workstations.

Kia will be gradually increasing face shield production, ultimately reaching a capacity of 200,000 units per month, in support of donations the company has scheduled over the next several weeks to medical facilities in Southern California and New York. Face shield production is the latest extension of Kia’s Accelerate the Good program following the company’s pledge to donate a total of $1 million to non-profit partners that assist homeless youth nationwide, including Covenant House, StandUp for Kids and Family Promise. Kia’s donation will help provide much needed shelter and care to help fight the spread of COVID-19. Earlier, Kia donated N95 masks and gloves to medical facilities throughout Orange County, California, where the brand’s U.S. headquarters is located.

“Kia is a proud member of the Georgia community and the talented team members of Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia are giving it everything to supply desperately needed protective equipment to those on the frontlines of this pandemic,” said Sean Yoon, president and CEO, Kia Motors North America. “Kia is grateful to both GEMA representatives and the healthcare workers on the frontlines of this crisis for their ongoing courage and bravery and hope that this donation helps them continue to give it everything.”

Kia will continue to look for ways to best utilize its resources and support its valued customers and communities during this time.

KIA MOTORS DONATES $1 MILLION TO AID HOMELESS YOUTH DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Donation is Part of Kia’s Larger “Accelerate the Good” Initiative Offering Relief to Those Affected by – and to Help Prevent the Spread of – COVID-19

  • Kia pledges $1 million to charities dedicated to ending the plight of homeless youth nationwide
  • Contribution builds on earlier donations of N95 masks and surgical grade gloves made to medical centers throughout Orange County, California

IRVINE, Calif., April 9, 2020 –  As part of the brand’s ongoing response to the COVID-19 health crisis, Kia Motors America (KMA) today announced a total donation of $1 million to multiple non-profit partners that assist homeless youth nationwide, including Covenant House, StandUp for Kids and Family Promise. The $1 million donation will help homeless youth in all 50 states receive much needed shelter and care in an effort to help fight the spread of COVID-19.

“Giving back in meaningful ways is a key component of Kia’s Give It Everything strategy here in the U.S., which is especially true in tough times like these. With shelter in place orders all but impossible for the estimated 4.2 million homeless youth in the U.S. to adhere to, we are humbled to once again provide financial assistance to organizations dedicated to helping this at-risk population,” said Michael Cole, president, Kia Motors America. “The homeless population is very susceptible to COVID-19 and providing crucial health, social, and emotional support during these uncertain times is more critical than ever.”

Today’s contribution is the second seven-figure donation to the fight to end youth homelessness the brand has made this year. The first donation was announced as part of Kia’s most recent Super Bowl campaign. A new broadcast spot highlighting this issue entitled “Fighting Chance” will air nationally on both network and cable channels.

The $1 million donation builds upon Kia’s recently introduced Accelerate the Good program, which began in March when Kia donated N95 masks and gloves to medical facilities throughout Orange County, California, where the brand is headquartered. These initial donations served as the foundation for the brand’s more comprehensive and far-reaching Accelerate the Good initiatives, which include various programs for new and existing customers facing uncertainty during the COVID-19 outbreak, such as:

  • New customers – a range of programs to help ease the financial burden, including up to 120-day payment deferrals and 0%, 75-month financing on wide selection of Kia’s most popular models.
  • Existing customers – a range of service care initiatives, including concierge vehicle collection and delivery services, and 0% APR financing available for 90 days on service and maintenance at many dealers. Additionally, the Kia Promise warranty coverage extension program eases concerns experienced by some owners who may not be able to bring their vehicles to a Kia dealership for repairs due to COVID-19 but have warranties that are expiring.
  • Existing customers with Kia Motors Finance – for those experiencing payment difficulties due to COVID-19, options are available to defer payments or temporarily extend leases.

In an effort to make customers aware of all available offers, Kia is developing a separate broadcast spot scheduled to begin airing over the coming weeks.

Kia Soul EV and Telluride win 2020 World Car Awards

-      Kia Telluride SUV crowned World Car of the Year

-      Kia Soul EV electric crossover named World Urban Car

(SEOUL) April 8, 2020 – Kia Motors Corporation has won big at the 2020 World Car Awards with the Telluride named ‘World Car of the Year’ and the Soul EV ‘World Urban Car’.

The Kia Telluride was rewarded by the judging panel for its distinctive design and impressive practicality. The World Car of the Year title represents another accolade for a vehicle that has garnered more than 70 awards since its introduction in 2019. The SUV has already been crowned North American Utility Vehicle of the Year and MotorTrend SUV of the Year, among others.

The fully-electric Soul EV was named the ideal car for the city by the jury, combining zero-emission performance and impressive electric range with a compact body, bold design, and high levels of practicality.

“Everyone at Kia is truly honored to receive not just one, but two awards from the World Car of the Year judging panel,” said Thomas Schemera, Executive Vice President and Head of Product Division at Kia Motors Corporation. “This is one of the hardest-fought competitions in the global automotive industry, proving that the Telluride and Soul EV are both truly outstanding vehicles. These accolades are testament to the talents and efforts of a worldwide team, who all strive to create desirable, high-quality and practical cars that drivers love.”

The winners of the World Car Awards are decided by an independent international jury comprising 86 highly-experienced, well-respected automotive journalists from 24 countries around the world.

Available across North America and in many of Kia’s global markets, the Kia Telluride merges a strong exterior design presence with a spacious, practical and high-quality cabin which can seat up to eight passengers. Equipped with an array of advanced technologies, all-wheel drive, and driver-assistance systems, the Telluride is ideal for family adventures on and off the beaten track.

The compact Kia Soul EV features a powerful battery-electric powertrain with a choice of 64 or 39.2 kWh battery packs. Able to travel up to 452 kilometers on a single charge (64 kWh models; WLTP ‘combined’ cycle), the Soul EV offers drivers greater all-electric range than many more expensive electric vehicles, making it the ideal companion, both in the urban environment and beyond city limits. A series of advanced range-increasing technologies, including regenerative braking, ensures drivers can maximize the distance on a single charge.
