KIA LAUNCHES ALL-NEW MARKETING CAMPAIGN FOR AN ALL-NEW CATEGORY OF VEHICLE - THE CARNIVAL MPV

Carnival Multi-Purpose Vehicle Redefines the Category and Pushes the Boundaries of Design and Innovation

  • Multifaceted marketing campaign includes broadcast, digital, out-of-home and print elements
  • :30-second spot highlighting Carnival’s key features debuts this week

IRVINE, Calif., April 8, 2021 – Kia is debuting the all-new 2022 Carnival MPV in a multifaceted marketing campaign, the centerpiece of which is a :30-second broadcast spot entitled “What Else Ya Got?” The spot illustrates how the Carnival MPV offers active consumers a host of benefits to support their busy lives and stakes Carnival as a new offering in the unoccupied space between SUV and family hauler.

The spot features the Kia Carnival MPV traveling along a stretch of desert road, passing through vignettes of life’s interesting moments. From dirt bike races to marathons, camping trips and moving to a new home, the Carnival is there through life’s turns. In each scenario, one of Carnival’s key product features helps tell the story, from the second-row VIP lounge-style seating to the 3,500-lb. towing capacity and blind spot monitoring system. The voiceover tells the audience: “Take it wherever. With whoever. Load it up. Change it. Challenge it. Throw everything - and the kitchen sink - at it. Every time, the all-new Kia Carnival MPV comes back with one thing to say: ‘What Else Ya Got?’”

“The Carnival MPV defines a new vehicle segment – the multi-purpose vehicle: versatile, capable and comfortable, and provides owners what they need, when they need it,” said Russell Wager, vice president, marketing, Kia Motors America. “From daily commuting and long-haul road trips to camping adventures, family vacations and moving duty, the Carnival MPV easily transforms from a stylish and sophisticated adventurer to a cavernous cargo hauler. And everything in between.”

Penned at Kia’s California design studio, the Carnival wears a bold and boxy appearance that conveys the visual language found on the brand’s recent and highly successful line of rugged utility vehicles - Telluride, Sorento, and Seltos. Inside, the three-row seven- or eight-passenger MPV delivers premium refinement, savvy technology and unexpected flexibility. And with best-in-class passenger and cargo room there is plenty of space to accommodate the day’s errands…or adventures.

The Carnival MPV arrives in the U.S. as a new name and will be the first vehicle sold in the U.S. with Kia’s new logo on its sculpted hood.

Kia announces March 2021 global sales

  • March global sales at 251,362 units, up 8.6% y/y
  • Korea sales at 51,011 units from 51,008 a year earlier Sales outside of Korea jumped 11% y/y to 200,351 units
  • Kia to create sales momentum through new models including EV6, the company’s first dedicated EV.

(SEOUL) April 1, 2021 – Kia Corporation recorded global sales of 251,362 units in March 2021, an 8.6 percent increase compared to the same month last year.

SUV models led Kia’s global sales, with the Sportage being sold 29,505 units, followed by the Seltos compact SUV and the Sorento mid-size SUV.

Korea sales

Kia recorded 51,011 units of sales in Korea, little changed from 51,008 units in March 2020. The Carnival minivan topped sales in Kia’s home market with 9,520 units sold, followed by the Sorento SUV with 8,357 units.

Sales outside of Korea

Sales outside of Korea saw a 11 percent rise from a year earlier to 200,351 units, steered by the Sportage and Seltos SUVs as well as the Rio subcompact sedan. Although the global economy is suffering slowdown from COVID-19, key auto markets are seeing a recovery in customer demand. Steady sales in India buoyed by Seltos and Sonet SUV models, helped contribute to the global results.

Despite the tough business environment, Kia will continue to focus on implementing its mid- to long-term business strategy ‘Plan S’, as well as building sales momentum and profitability through new models, including the brand new K8 sedan and the recently premiered Kia EV6 electric vehicle.

In Korea, more than 21,000 potential customers lodged online reservation for EV6 on the first day the dedicated website opened. The EV6 will go on sale in select global markets from the second half of this year.
