KIA SORENTO PLUG-IN HYBRIDS SNAG SPOTS ON REBELLE RALLY PODIUM

Kia Teams Finish Strong and Take Second and Third Place in X-CrossTM Class

  • Pair of Sorento PHEVs showcased turbo-hybrid capability throughout eight-day competition
  • Verena Mei and Tana White (Team 206, Giggle Watt) among top 3 in several stages, winning day 6 to secure second place overall
  • Alyssa Roenigk and Sabrina Howells (Team 205, Watt Girl Summer) finished first in several stages throughout rally, solidifying third place on podium

IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 28, 2021 – Kia America proudly celebrates a double achievement, as both of its formidable Rebelle Rally teams earned spots on the X-Cross class podium after crossing the finish line in modified 2022 Sorento PHEVs. Professional rally driver Verena Mei and navigator Tana White were dynamo first-time teammates, nipping at the heels of the first-place team to finish second overall. Kia’s returning team from last year, Alyssa Roenigk and Sabrina Howells, capitalized on their impressive performance last year, coming in third place overall. There were a total of 10 teams in the X-Cross class.

“We are elated over the strong performances from both of our teams, who truly tested the Sorento PHEV’s mettle throughout the course of the punishing rally,” said Sean Yoon, president & CEO, Kia North America and Kia America. “All four women embody Kia’s new slogan, ‘Movement That Inspires’ and their podium finishes prove that our rugged and capable SUVs can also be energy efficient adventure vehicles.”

Both Sorento PHEVs competed in the X-Cross class under the electrified program. Customized by women-owned LGE-CTS Motorsports in Southern California, the SUVs were modified with, among other things, underbody armor to protect the undercarriage, plus a front bumper guard and skid plate. Tow points were affixed to the front and rear bumpers, and a 1-inch spacer lift provided a slight increase in ground clearance. With Hankook Tire America Corp. as the official tire provider for the rally vehicles, both PHEVs traversed across rocky terrain and sand dunes on Dynapro AT2 all-terrain tires outfitted with 17-inch KMC matte black wheels.

“It was so great to follow both teams and witness how they conquered tough terrain in the Sorento PHEV,” said Emily Miller, founder of Rebelle Rally. “Both teams shook things up in the X-CrossTM class and made it an extremely tight rally, leading them to ultimately grab two spots on the podium.”

The Rebelle Rally spanned roughly 1,500 miles of rough terrain through Nevada, Arizona and California.

KIA AMERICA TOOK ON THE UTAH DESERT TO CELEBRATE THE 20th ANNIVERSARY RED BULL RAMPAGE

Mountain Biking Event Rooted in Outdoor Adventures, Inspired Epic Movements and Freestyle Creativity

IRVINE, Calif., October 28, 2021 – From October 17-19, Kia America took to the Utah desert as the official vehicle of Red Bull Rampage, the country’s premier big mountain, free-ride mountain biking event. Red Bull Rampage also marked its 20th anniversary as home to some of the biggest and best tricks, lines, and moments in freeriding mountain biking history.

Kia’s sponsorship included presenting the Virtual Live Set and the Digger Award for the hardest working team, won by Joel Shockley and Samuel Mercado for their efforts in digging athlete Jaxson Riddle’s line. In addition, Kia also provided twelve 2022 Sorento SUVs as support vehicles for teams, organizers, and fans throughout the event. A one-of-a-kind Sorento Zion Edition concept vehicle was also on display.

“Twenty years is a great milestone for Red Bull Rampage and this year’s event delivered on all of the inspired creativity we have come to expect,” said Russell Wager, vice president, marketing, Kia America. “For the past two decades, Red Bull Rampage has promoted the freeride scene, outdoorsmanship and the pursuit of new adventures. This year, Kia and our lineup of rugged and capable SUVs helped foster the epic tricks and unbelievable moments Red Bull Rampage is famous for.”

As part of the sponsorship, Kia America helped bring a unique perspective of the mountain to viewers at home so they could experience Rampage virtually. A hyper-real 3D model of the mountain was added to the virtual set during the livestream, highlighting the custom features and runs of each athlete. The technology provided viewers a first-hand look at the iconic event by allowing the hosts to place a virtual camera anywhere on the photorealistic mountain. This allowed the hosts – and viewers – to check out every feature in up close detail, bringing added visibility to the tricks of each rider’s run.

Red Bull’s 20th Anniversary Rampage brought together 15 of the world’s best riders who descended upon the rugged desert landscape of Southern Utah and spent nine days preparing for the event – the first four days carving out their ultimate lines into the side of near-vertical sandstone ridges; followed by a rest day and then four days of practice runs in advance of the epic desert showdown where only one rider reigned supreme.

This year’s winner was Canada’s Brandon Semenuk, who became the first-ever 4-time winner of the event as well as the first-ever back-to-back winner of the event. The inaugural Red Bull Rampage was held in 2001 and since it began, has seen 15 different events and nine different winners take their place in the annals of freestyle history. Part of this year’s event was a retrospective that took a look back at some of the most memorable moments from the past 20 years as well as how technology has evolved since the event began.

NEWLY REBRANDED “KIA CONNECT” SUITE BUILDS ON SUCCESS OF UVO IN-CAR CONNECTIVITY

Renamed telematics system aligns with Kia’s new future-focused EV brand direction

  • Kia Connect enhances UVO catalog of features with new updates and added amenities including Map Over the Air (OTA) updates starting with all-new 2022 EV6 crossover1
  • New name emphasizes the importance of connectivity, as Kia Connect is now available on at least one configuration of all Kia models
  • Fully refreshed Kia Access App provides a more streamlined customer experience
  • New Stolen Vehicle Recovery feature ups level of security and peace of mind for Kia owners

IRVINE, CA, October 27, 2021 – Kia America has rebranded its long-standing in-car and app-based telematics system from “UVO” to “Kia Connect,” aligning with the automaker’s new future-focused brand direction, centered around electrification. The renaming emphasizes the importance of connectivity as, starting with model year 2022, one or more configurations of each Kia vehicle will have access to Kia Connect.  The brand has seen its number of connected cars grow forty-fold from 15,000 in 2018, to an estimated 600,000 by the end of 2021.

Kia Connect builds on the existing catalog of UVO features with new updates and added amenities, including Map Over the Air (OTA) updates, which will first become available on the upcoming all-new 2022 EV6.  The advanced technology suite also provides peace of mind for Kia owners with the newly-introduced Stolen Vehicle Recovery feature, which assists law enforcement in the recovery process with location sharing and immobilization capabilities.

Along with the new name, Kia Connect is redefined through a fully refreshed Kia Access App on Apple2 and Android3 devices.  The new interface offers newly added compatibility through smartphones and smartwatches to access features including remote climate control and door lock/unlock.4  Aside from increased convenience, the Kia Access App provides customers with a more streamlined and intuitive user experience.

“As Kia shifts to electrification, in-car connectivity is a core pillar of the brand,” said Sean Yoon, president & CEO, Kia North America and Kia America.  “To that end, Kia Connect will deliver a world-class customer experience through an array of features that enhance vehicle connectivity, functionality, and user control.”

Aside from upcoming Map OTA updates and new Stolen Vehicle Recovery, and depending on the model and trim, Kia Connect provides the following services and features through advanced embedded connectivity5:

  • Wi-Fi Hotspot6 connects up to five devices to 4G LTE based internet
  • Connected Routing: Cloud-based system calculates the optimal route using real-time maps and predicted traffic info based on historical information and AI to learn the preferred routes of users
  • Last Mile Navigation: Provides walking directions to selected navigation destination from up to one mile away through the Kia Access app on compatible smartphone
  • Smart Speaker Integration lets customers use Amazon Alexa7 or Google Assistant8 enabled smart speakers or devices to remotely control some functions (such as remote start)
  • Connected Weather: Provides weather information for more than 25,000 cities
  • Enhanced voice assist feature allows voice control of the vehicle’s climate, seat and steering-wheel heating,9 audio system, and other functions
  • 911 Connect and Enhanced Roadside Assistance: Automatically calls 911 via the built-in modem if an airbag deploys.10 For non-emergencies, it can connect with 24/7 roadside assistance and share the vehicle’s location
  • On-demand Find My Car with Surround View Monitor: Uses the vehicle cameras to capture images of the vehicle’s surroundings and then displays them in the Kia Access App or Kia Owner’s Portal
  • Integrates owner’s personal calendar and shows calendar events in the navigation system

Currently, new connected car features are launched through the Kia Owner’s Portal and app updates.  Customers will rely on OTA updates in the future as Kia adds this capability to new vehicles.  The 2023 Sportage is the first Kia model to be announced with Kia Connect.  However, the 2022 EV6 will be the first model to go on sale with the Kia Connect name.

October 27, 2021 – As Kia’s longest running nameplate which pioneered its segment, the Sportage undergoes its most significant change to date as the fifth generation is unveiled. Developed as part of Kia’s new global brand transformation, “Movement that Inspires,” the all-new 2023 Sportage subcompact SUV delivers more of everything for today’s savvy, adventurous and eco-conscious consumers.

Exuding the brand’s new “Opposites United” design philosophy, the new Sportage is a welcome addition in a sea of bland-looking subcompact SUVs that crowd today’s market. Significantly larger, more capable and powerful, and targeted to be more fuel efficient, the fifth-generation model debuts a number of Sportage firsts including an available dual panoramic curved digital display and an exciting new variant that will literally take consumers to new heights. Most Sportage trims will now be assembled in the U.S., alongside the award-winning Telluride, Sorento, and K5 at Kia’s manufacturing plant in West Point, Georgia.

“While Kia moves purposefully toward electrification, we are further strengthening the Sportage lineup by adding a variety of options suited for all different kinds of customers,” said Sean Yoon, president and CEO, Kia America, Kia North America. “The tremendous success formula of our current stable of SUVs has been infused into every ounce of the new Sportage, transforming it into a leader of the pack with its cutting-edge design, adventurous capability and desirable in-car technology.”

The Sportage delivers something for everyone, with a diverse lineup and trim levels that include the LX, EX, SX, SX-Prestige and X-Line, while the all-new Sportage X-Pro and X-Pro Prestige trims allow drivers to venture further into nature with off-road ready features including all-terrain tires, among other elements.

With several enticing variants to come, the 2023 Sportage will help build Kia’s reputation in electrification, while also strengthening the brand’s commitment to building rugged and capable SUVs. Following in the footsteps of the Sorento, the Sportage will also be available in a hybrid version. Details on that and other powertrains will be revealed at a later date, while gasoline variants are anticipated to go on sale in the U.S. in the first quarter of 2022.

A Balancing Act in Design
Bearing all the elements of Kia’s new “Opposites United” design philosophy, Sportage’s distinctive appearance leaves a lasting impression with its contrasting but unified elements. Smooth, soft surfaces are offset by rugged, sheer forms, combining off-road confidence with cutting edge modern cues. It’s sleek and ready for anything.

  • Tiger nose grille gets more technical with floating design, perched above blacked out grille graphic that spans the entire width of the front fascia
  • Distinct “boomerang” daytime running lights immediately draw the eye with dramatic angles, which push the uniquely shaped headlights to the outer corners
  • Angular fenders lend Sportage a sharp and strong presence
  • Crisp shoulder line rises from the hood and runs down the side, adding more volume to overall shape
  • Muscular shoulders around the rear flow into futuristic “notch-shaped” taillights, which are seamlessly connected by a thin black graphic across the tailgate

A Living Space Both Comfortable and Connected
Inspired by high-end outdoor products, furniture, and modern architecture, the Sportage’s interior is a new concept for Kia, transforming the cabin into a pleasant living space, complete with near-luxury, thoughtful features:

  • Futuristic driver cockpit with available dual panoramic curved display5 seamlessly connects two screens for nearly 25-inches of digital bliss (12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 12.3-inch infotainment screen)
  • Angular air vents hug the curved display for a simple and technical overall dash layout
  • Asymmetrical console puts controls and buttons at driver’s hand with ease, while also boasting smart storage solutions, including cup holders that come undone when they need to hold something other than a cup (think tablet, etc.)
  • Real stitching and detailed pattern on the seats create a feeling of luxury (SX and above), along with animal-free leather (EX and above)
  • Innovative coat hanger molded behind front headrests, with useable seatbacks that also house USB ports and an integrated hook for shopping bags or for organizing charging cables6

To further distinguish itself from the hot-selling Seltos and more clearly define its space in Kia’s robust SUV lineup, the Sportage has gone from one of the smallest SUVs in its class to one of the largest. With best-in-class rear legroom7, rear passengers are greeted with a more relaxing space where they can feel good about kicking back.

  • Overall length is 7.1 inches longer than previous generation, with a 3.4-inch longer wheelbase
  • Taller and wider by a half inch compared to the previous generation
  • Class-leading rear legroom with 41.3 inches of room7
  • Best-in-class rear cargo capacity with 39.6 cu-ft. of space
  • Dual level cargo floor

To match the high-tech interior, the Sportage abounds with standard and available infotainment to keep drivers connected, confident, and informed of what’s going on around them.

  • Standard Android Auto8 and Apple CarPlay9 on all trims
  • Intuitive new touchpad with climate and audio controls sits beneath infotainment screen; switching between functions changes what physical knobs do, whether it’s controlling temperature or adjusting the volume
  • Available 360-degree Surround-View Monitor with 3D view provides a bird’s-eye view of vehicle surroundings10
  • Available Harman Kardon11 premium audio system
  • Multi-connection Bluetooth12 simultaneously links two smartphones

    • Peace of mind with the recently introduced stolen vehicle tracking and immobilization capability
    • Connected Routing: Cloud-based system calculates the optimal route using real-time maps and predicted traffic info based on historical information and AI to learn the preferred routes of users
    • Smart Speaker Integration lets customers use Amazon Alexa17 or Google Assistant18 enabled smart speakers or devices to remotely control some functions (such as remote start16)

New Foundation
Underpinned by the same all-new 3rd generation “N3” platform found in the Sorento, the chassis provides a rigid base and aims to offer:

  • Better driving dynamics via expanded use of hot-stamped parts and ultra-high-strength steel for increased average tensile strength and torsional stiffness
  • Minimized road, wind, and engine noise via greater application of sound absorbing and insulating materials

A Diverse Engine Lineup
Whether you’re an urban adventurer or an off-pavement explorer, there’s a Sportage for you.

  • New 2.5-liter I-4 is more powerful and targeted to be more fuel efficient than outgoing engine
    • Paired with new 8-speed automatic transmission
    • Targeted 187 horsepower
    • FWD or available AWD (AWD-equipped models gain 1.5 inches in ground clearance over outgoing Sportage)
    • The available Active AWD system3 uses electro-hydraulic coupling with center-locking differential to actively distribute power between front and rear wheels depending on road and driving conditions.
    • Information regarding additional powertrain availability will be shared at a later date.

Sportage All-Wheel Drive X-Line and X-Pro
In developing a reputation for building rugged and capable SUVs, Sportage is available in the X-Line and all-new Sportage X-Pro trims. Both come standard with AWD and a unique tread-like stitching pattern on unique and easy to clean SynTex synthetic leather seats.

  • LED Headlights with High Beam Assist (HBA): Engineered to automatically dim the headlights when an oncoming or leading vehicle is detected, then return to high beams when vehicles are no longer detected
  • Lane Following Assist (LFA): Helps detect lane markings and vehicles ahead and provides steering inputs to help center the vehicle in the lane
  • Lane Keeping Assist (LKA): Helps detect lane markings and provides steering inputs to help prevent the vehicle from leaving the lane while driving
  • Forward Collision Avoidance (FCA) with Cyclist detection capability: Warns if there is risk of a collision with a vehicle, pedestrian, or cyclist in front of the vehicle while driving and may automatically assist with braking
  • Rear Occupant Alert (ROA)22: Provides a warning to the driver to check the rear seat before exiting the vehicle
  • Rear View Monitor (RVM) with Dynamic Parking Guidance: Provides view of behind the vehicle, with guidelines that adjust to follow the direction the vehicle is turning
  • Reverse Parking Distance Warning (PDW-R): Detects certain objects behind the vehicle, issuing an audible warning when an obstruction is detected. The warning tone chimes faster as the vehicle gets closer to the detected object

Optional Advanced Driver Assistance Systems:

  • Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control-Curve (NSCC-C): Leverages the navigation system to help lower the vehicle’s speed proactively before upcoming curves
  • Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control-Zone (NSCC-Z): Leverages the navigation system to help lower the vehicle’s speed proactively before upcoming changes in speed limits
  • Reverse Parking Collision Avoidance (PCA-R): May help avoid collisions with rear pedestrians or objects detected during reverse parking, potentially automatically assisting with emergency braking if the risk of a collision increases after warning
  • Safe Exit Warning (SEW)25: Provides a warning when a vehicle is approaching from the rear-side while someone is exiting the vehicle
  • Smart Cruise Control (SCC) with Stop and Go: Helps maintain distance from the vehicle ahead and drive at a speed set by the driver, including in certain stop-and-go driving conditions

The 2022 Forte makes several enhancements to its suite of Kia Drive Wise Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)2. There are six standard ADAS features and as many as 15 systems in total.  New features to the Forte include:

  • Standard Lane Following Assist (LFA): Follows lane markings that the system detects and provides steering inputs to help maintain the vehicle in the center of the lane
  • Available Highway Driving Assist (HDA)3: Uses federal highway speed limit information from the navigation system and, under certain conditions, will automatically adjust speed to be within the posted speed limit and help to maintain distance with the vehicle detected in front
  • Available Navigation Based Smart Cruise Control-Curve (NSCC-C): Leverages the navigation system to lower the vehicle’s speed proactively before upcoming curves
  • Available Navigation Based Smart Cruise Control-Zone (NSCC-Z): Leverages the navigation system to lower the vehicle’s speed proactively to adapt to changing speed limits on the highway

The following systems2 were upgraded over the previous model year:

  • Available Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist (BCA): Under certain conditions, can detect vehicles traveling in the next lane. When a vehicle is “seen” in the blind spot, the vehicle brakes the outer wheel under certain conditions to help return the vehicle to its lane
  • Standard Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA-Ped): Assists the driver when braking to help prevent a collision or lessen the effects in certain conditions if a vehicle or pedestrian is detected in front
  • Available Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA-Cyc): Assists the driver when braking to help prevent a collision or lessen the effects in certain conditions if a vehicle, pedestrian or cyclist is detected in front
  • Available Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist (RCCA): Helps detect most approaching cross traffic when in reverse. When approaching cross traffic is detected, the system alerts the driver and may apply the brakes

Other standard ADAS features include Driver Attention Warning (DAW)8, Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Lane Keep Assist (LKA)2.

SORENTO PLUG-IN HYBRIDS PRIMED AND PREPPED FOR REBELLE RALLY

Kia’s 2022 Rally Builds Inspired by Rugged Zion, Yosemite Sorento X-Line Concepts Unveiled in 2020

  • Off-road ready Sorento PHEVs customized by ‘powerhouse sister’ team at LGE-CTS Motorsports
  • Hankook Tire America Corp. is Kia’s official tire provider for the rally
  • Kia proudly donates $10,000 to Girls Inc. of Orange County non-profit to help inspire young girls with women-only off-road challenge

(IRVINE, Calif.) October 8, 2021 – Following the previous announcement of Kia America’s participation in the 2021 Rebelle Rally, the company has unveiled the modified, trail-ready Sorento Plug-in Hybrids (PHEVs) that will compete in the race. Inspired by the rugged and adventurous Zion and Yosemite Sorento X-Line concepts revealed last year, the rally-ready Sorento PHEVs have been outfitted to take on the elements of the punishing 1,500-mile navigational desert challenge.

Customized by women-owned LGE-CTS Motorsports in Southern California, the Sorento PHEVs are wrapped with color schemes similar to the exclusive “Desert Sand” and “Pine Green” paint finishes on the Zion and Yosemite concepts. Each vehicle has been modified with underbody armor to protect the undercarriage, plus a front bumper guard and skid plate. Tow points have been affixed to the front and rear bumpers, while a 1-inch spacer lift provides a slight increase in ground clearance. Both rally vehicles sit atop 17-inch KMC matte black wheels and Hankook Dynapro AT2 all-terrain tires.

Up top, the rally vehicles have been equipped with a roof rack for the teams’ recovery gear, including tread boards and shovels. For additional recovery gear, like tools and safety equipment, the Sorento PHEV’s rear seats have been taken out to make room for an interior cargo mounting system. This smartly built system helps prevent gear from sliding around and bouncing inside the cabin, along with providing easy and quick access for important items the teams need to use in a pinch while out on the course.

With Hankook as the tire sponsor, the Sorento rally vehicles sport Hankook decals along with the Girls Inc. logo on the rear passenger windows.

“The Rebelle Rally is an inspiration to women everywhere,” said Russell Wager, vice president of marketing, Kia America. “With our new slogan, ‘Movement That Inspires,’ and our long-standing relationship with Girls Inc. of Orange County, it only made sense for us to represent the non-profit at the women-only rally so that the young girls could cheer on our incredible teams taking on the arduous challenge in the Sorento PHEV.”

As part of its Rebelle Rally efforts, Kia is donating $10,000 to Girls Inc. of Orange County and selected the organization as the non-profit of choice for the rally’s Team Spirit award. Should one of the Kia teams win the award, Girls Inc. will receive an additional $5,000 from Rebelle Rally.

“Inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold is not just the Girls Inc. of Orange County mission, it’s a passion that Kia America has continued to champion through the years, especially with its participation in the Rebelle Rally,” said Lucy Santana, CEO, Girls Inc. of Orange County. “We could not be more thrilled to have our girls engaged, learning how to put away electronic devices and read maps, use compasses, and watch bold women take on the rally in Kia’s Sorento Plug-In Hybrid, which will be the cars of our girls’ future.”

The Rebelle Rally takes place on Oct. 7-16 and you can follow Kia’s teams on RebelleRally.com.

ELECTRIFIED AND ADVENTURE-READY: 2022 SORENTO PHEV SET TO TAKE ON DAUNTING REBELLE RALLY

Kia Returns to Navigational Desert Challenge with Turbo Plug-in Hybrid Power

  • Pair of modified Sorento PHEVs will take part in rally’s Electrified Designation and compete in the X-Cross Class
  • Two highly experienced teams to showcase capability of latest addition to Kia’s ‘Plan S’ electrification strategy
  • Sabrina Howells and Alyssa Roenigk team up once again; professional rally driver Verena Mei and Tana White are new to the Kia Rebelle Rally family

IRVINE, CA, October 5, 2021 – Kia America is ready to hit the dirt again for the 2021 Rebelle Rally, this time entering a pair of modified 2022 Sorento PHEVs to highlight the capability of the electrified SUV in the harsh conditions that make up the 1,500-mile navigational desert challenge. Two formidable all-women teams will be at the helm of the new plug-in hybrid SUVs as they compete in the X-Cross class under the “Electrified” designation.

Launched in 2021, Rebelle Rally’s Electrified Designation is an authentic challenge for EVs, plug-in hybrids and conventional hybrids. The 2022 Sorento PHEV will demonstrate its ability to off-road on plug-in power in a number of special sections.

“The Sorento Plug-in Hybrid plays a pivotal role in the launch of Kia’s Plan S electrification strategy and the Rebelle Rally is the ultimate proving ground for us to showcase our commitment to sustainable mobility, even off the beaten path,” said Sean Yoon, president & CEO, Kia North America and Kia America. “We’re proud to have two incredible teams put the Sorento PHEV through its paces and introduce Kia consumers to a new, electrified way of outdoor exploration.”

In 2020, a Kia-sponsored Telluride came in a close second in the X-Cross class, and for 2021, driver Alyssa Roenigk and navigator Sabrina Howells are pairing up once again. Their goal is to outdo their incredible performance from last year when they dominated several stage wins, even outpacing the 4x4 group in the Imperial Sand Dunes on the final day of competition. Piloting the second Sorento PHEV is professional rally driver Verena Mei, who despite being new to Rebelle Rally, is poised for success given her impressive background in motorsports and above all, her masterful navigator Tana White, who is no stranger to the rigorous off-road challenge. Check out the teams’ complete bios on RebelleRally.com.

In addition to competing in the rally, Kia America is also proud to be an official Rebelle Rally sponsor.

“We are honored to have Kia return and continue to support us,” said Emily Miller, founder of the Rebelle Rally. “This partnership is a natural fit considering we both share the same values in sustainability, and we are eager to experience seeing the Sorento PHEVs withstand the elements in our electrified program.”

The Sorento Plug-in Hybrids competing in the rally will be minimally modified and sport a design inspired by previous Kia outdoors and adventurous concepts. Powered by a 66.9 kW electric motor and a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine that combine to achieve 261 horsepower, the 2022 Sorento PHEV has an EPA-estimated 32-mile pure electric driving range, the best of any 3-row PHEV SUV.1 With an EPA-estimated combined overall range of 460 miles, it achieves an EPA-estimated 79 MPGe combined rating and features standard torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive.

Details about the rally builds and photos will be revealed closer to the start of the Rebelle Rally, which begins on Oct. 7 near the Hoover Dam in Arizona and ends on Oct. 16 in the Imperial Sand Dunes in California.

IRVINE, Calif., September 30, 2021 – Kia America today announced September sales of 52,906 units, led by Forte and Telluride models, which accelerated Kia to its best-ever third quarter sales in company history for a total of 177,014 units sold. This result has contributed to Kia’s highest ever sales performance for the first nine months of a calendar year – a total of 555,525 units – a nine-percent increase over the previous first three-quarter sales record of 491,764 units set in 2016.

In September, Kia sold 77-percent of available inventory and saw a marked increase in sales of its hybrid and battery-electric vehicles, with year-over-year sales up more than 81-percent. Telluride realized record September sales with 9,278 units and throughout the month anticipation for the all-new EV6 – Kia’s first dedicated battery electric vehicle – continued to grow with the model expected to arrive at dealerships in early 2022.

“Kia sales continued to break records and build upon the momentum seen since the start of the year, despite the ongoing supply chain issues facing the industry,” said Eric Watson, vice president, sales operations, Kia America. “Our record setting performance in Q3 has reinforced confidence that our positive sales trajectory will continue well into 2022.”

In addition to sales, last month saw a number of significant announcements coming from the brand, including:

  • The third class of Great Unknowns Scholarship recipients was announced, bringing the total number of students receiving the $5,000 yearly scholarship to 45 since the scholarship was established in 2019
  • A new 60-second spot highlighting Kia’s electrified future and new brand identity made its debut during the 73RD EMMY® AWARDS on September 19th
  • The all-new, all-electric EV6 was driven by NBC’s America’s Got Talent Judge Simon Cowell and was featured as part of in-show integrations and season-winner and runner-up prize packages
  • A donation of $200,000 to the American Red Cross made by Kia America to assist with disaster relief efforts and provide shelter, food and comfort to those affected by Hurricane Ida
