Kia Headed to Rebelle Rally with Modified 2023 Sportage X-Pro

  • Kia America returns to the iconic all-women off-road navigational challenge for third consecutive year
  • Returning teammates Verena Mei and Tana White determined to outdo their outstanding performance from last year
  • 2023 Sportage X-Pro outfitted by LGE-CTS Motorsports will compete in X-Cross class

IRVINE, CA, Sept. 28, 2022 – Kia America is headed to the iconic Rebelle Rally for the third year in a row, this time with a 2023 Sportage X-Pro that has been modified to handle the harsh topography that makes up the 1,500-mile navigational challenge. Teammates Verena Mei (driver) and Tana White (navigator) return this year for redemption in the X-Cross class after placing second in the Sorento PHEV last year.

“Kia’s longest running nameplate has a storied past of off-road desert racing with impressive results to boot in the Paris-Dakar rally and Baja 1000 race,” said Steve Center, COO and EVP, Kia America. “An incredible off-road contender back then, the latest iteration of the Sportage will build upon its legacy by tackling the arduous Rebelle Rally with finesse, especially with such a fierce team at the helm.”

To help further the success of the team out on the trail, Kia partnered with Theresa Contreras and Sara Morosan, the powerhouse-sister team and owners of LGE-CTS Motorsports and Baja Forged off-road products, to prime the 2023 Sportage X-Pro for the rally. Wearing a wrap inspired by Kia’s new slogan, “Movement that Inspires,” the Sportage dons custom Baja Forged front- and rear bumpers complete with tow points and a custom roof rack. Skidplates in the front, rear and underbody will help protect the Sportage’s underbelly, while 17-inch Rhino wheels are wrapped in BFGoodrich® All-Terrain T/A K02 tires, sponsored by Michelin.

This treatment enhances the already capable Sportage X-Pro, which is powered by a 187-hp 2.5-liter I-4 engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Made for outdoor adventures right out of the gate, the X-Pro comes standard with an Active AWD system and multi-terrain drive modes with Normal, Sport, Smart, and Snow.

In 2021, two 2022 Sorento PHEVs earned podium spots in the X-Cross class with second- and third place finishes. The previous year, a 2020 Telluride narrowly missed first place in the X-Cross class. Follow this year’s team on RebelleRally.com from Oct. 6-15.

KIA AMERICA OFFERS 500 KILOWATT-HOURS OF COMPLIMENTARY FAST CHARGING TO NIRO EV BUYERS THROUGH ELECTRIFY AMERICA NETWORK

Fast charging facilitates shorter stops during road trips

  • Niro EV owners can access 500 kWh of complimentary charging through Electrify America app
  • Kia’s commitment to fast charging builds on efforts led by the Soul EV and all-electric EV6

IRVINE, CA, September 27, 2022 – Kia America and Electrify America have announced a collaboration to provide drivers of the all-new second-generation 2023 Kia Niro EV with 500 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of complimentary EV charging at any Electrify America station across the United States. The charging credit can enable Niro EV owners to drive as many as 1,950 miles, depending on driving style and external conditions.1

“With the launch of the new Niro EV, we are expanding our collaboration with Electrify America to enable Niro EV drivers to experience all-electric road trips with the added benefit of quick recharging,” said Steven Center, COO & EVP, Kia America.

The all-electric Niro EV has an all-electric range of 253 miles and is powered by a 64.8 kWh battery and a 150kW (201-horsepower) motor with DC fast-charging capability as standard. Plugged in to a DC fast charger, the Niro EV can replenish its energy from 10 to 80 percent in under 45 minutes, at a maximum charging power of 85 kW. An optional heat pump and battery warmer help preserve range in cold temperatures and help the Niro EV charge more quickly in cold temperatures.

“Kia and Electrify America understand the importance of DC fast charging for electric vehicle drivers,” said Giovanni Palazzo, president and chief executive officer of Electrify America. “We are thrilled to expand the collaboration and help provide Niro drivers with confident DC fast charging on our coast-to-coast network of 800 stations.”

Kia Niro EV owners can search for Electrify America charging stations through in-car navigation, and access the DC charging network through the Electrify America mobile app. A one-time enrollment code for the Electrify America app is provided through the Kia owner’s portal or the Kia Access App, after the owner activates and enrolls with Kia Connect, the brand’s robust in-car telematics system. Owners will have three years from the date of purchase to use the complimentary charging credit.

  • All-new exterior and interior styling incorporates the “Opposites United” design philosophy
  • Stronger, lighter, more powerful: Niro models are larger in every dimension, including class-leading passenger and cargo volume1
  • Innovative interior features and sustainable materials
  • Best-in-class 53 MPG2 for Niro HEV
  • 253 miles of AER and quicker charging for Niro EV: can replenish 10-80% of charge in under 45 minutes3
  • On sale in all 50 states: 2023 Niro models will be available for purchase at any Kia retailer, from fall 2022

IRVINE, CA, September 27, 2022 – Following its debut at the New York Auto Show earlier this year, Kia America welcomes top media from around the country to experience the all-new 2023 Niro first-hand in and around Northern San Diego County. From the stunning Encinitas coastline and into the foothills around Julian, California, the next-generation Niro has been designed from the ground up to meet and exceed the expectations of eco-minded consumers. With striking styling cues and a commitment to sustainability and connectivity throughout, the 2023 Niro launches in the United States with three highly efficient, electrified powertrains: hybrid electric (HEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and all-electric (EV).

“Kia’s electrified vehicle momentum continues with the launch of the all-new second-generation Niro, which offers more refinement, versatility, connectivity, and technology than ever,” said Steven Center, COO & EVP, Kia America. “The 2023 Niro was designed for today’s needs and for sustainable future mobility.”

Available at Kia retailers in all 50 states by late fall, the all-new Niro family will present state-of-the-art electrified powertrain options and outstanding efficiency wrapped in a sleek, aerodynamic, and technologically focused package. In its second generation, Niro remains the only vehicle on the market available with three different electrified propulsion options.

Shaped by Nature

Inside and out, the 2023 Niro features bold design inspired by the “Opposites United” philosophy that infuses inspiration from nature with aerodynamic refinement. The exterior of the 2023 Niro embodies a sophisticated and adventurous sense of purpose and achieves an impressive drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.29. Its upswept, striking daytime running lights (DRL) flank the signature tiger nose grille, which has evolved with the new Kia brand identity. At the rear, boomerang-shaped LED taillights sit alongside uncomplicated surface treatments for a concise and aerodynamic styling combination, while the heartbeat-shaped rear reflector, rugged looking skid plate garnish and lower bumper enhance the front-end design. Niro HEV and Niro PHEV can be identified by black door cladding and wheel arches, while Niro EV is distinguished by Steel Grey or black exterior trim, depending on body color.

The all-new Kia Niro features a bold and dynamic design inspired by the brand’s acclaimed ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy, and specifically its design pillar ‘Joy for Reason’. The treatment takes inspiration from nature, while the choice of colors, materials and finishes aim to strike the perfect balance between an environmentally responsible approach to mobility and a future-oriented passenger car vision.

The side profile of the 2023 Kia Niro is accentuated by the Aero Blade, a highly distinctive shape that also aids airflow underneath the D-pillar. The Aero Blade can be painted in body color or in a variety of contrasting colors. Further enhancing the profile of Niro HEV and Niro PHEV are optional 18-inch alloy wheels.

Dimensionally, the 2023 Niro retains a compact footprint but is incrementally larger than the vehicle it replaces. The wheelbase increases to 107.1 inches, and overall length increases to 174 inches. Cargo capacity behind the rear seats increases to 22.8 cubic feet. And with 6.3 inches of ground clearance, Niro can easily handle urban activities. With these changes, Niro has 8 more cubic feet of passenger cabin room and 50 percent more cargo room than the Tesla Model 3.

Forward-Looking Interior Design

Complementing the bold exterior of the all-new Niro is an avant-garde interior, styled and upholstered with premium materials and textured surfaces. Its parametric design borrows cues from the all-electric EV6 for a tech-focused environment in all configurations and trims.

Upscale touches abound inside the 2023 Niro, and sustainability is integral to the materiality of the passenger compartment. The interior of Niro EV is composed of animal-free textiles, including the premium seating surfaces to touchpoints throughout the cabin. The headliner is made of recycled wallpaper, which contains 56 percent reused PET fibers. The slim, contemporary seats with integrated coat hangers enhance roominess, and they are covered by high-quality bio polyurethane and Tencel made from eucalyptus leaves. BTX-free paint, which is free from benzene, toluene, and xylene isomers, is used on the door panels to minimize the impact on the environment and reduce waste.

Style and in-car technology contribute to a sense of calm in the interior of the all-new Kia Niro. The off-center dashboard curves around the front occupants, with opposing horizontal and diagonal lines leading to a calming yet daring aesthetic. Available panoramic, dual 10.25-inch screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment system create a powerful, first visual impression, and offer state-of-the-art connectivity. Ambient mood lighting in a multitude of color combinations heightens the senses while creating a serene environment. Active Sound Design allows the driver to digitally enhance the engine and motor sounds of the Niro; an eight-speaker Harman/Kardon premium sound system is optional. The front seats, which feature optional memory, heating and ventilation, offer standard USB ports on the sides so that back-seat passengers can easily charge their devices.

Thanks to developments in interior packaging, the 2023 Niro now offers the roominess of a vehicle one size larger—and best-in-class passenger room. Generous front and rear headroom, legroom, and shoulder room demonstrate Kia’s commitment to passenger comfort and spaciousness.

Vehicle Technology Takes Center Stage

Advanced vehicle technology manifests in myriad forms in the all-new Kia Niro, from customizable vehicle settings through the in-dash infotainment system to class-leading, standard active safety equipment.

Approaching the vehicle, heartbeat-inspired DRLs and available power-folding mirrors act as a warm greeting. Once inside, available memory seats on some variants recall the driver’s position, and programmable mood lighting sets the scene. An available Head-Up Display (HUD) projects directions, active safety warnings, vehicle speed, and current infotainment directly in the driver’s line of sight. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability are standard, and a wireless phone charger is optional.4

The 2023 Niro EV is available with the same vehicle-to-load (V2L) onboard generator functionality pioneered by the EV65.

Standard, cutting-edge ADAS6 technology on the 2023 Niro includes:

  • Forward Collision Avoidance (FCA) with Pedestrian detection capability: Warns if there is risk of a collision with a pedestrian in front of the vehicle while driving and may automatically assist with braking
  • Lane Keeping Assist (LKA): Helps detect lane markings and provides steering inputs to help prevent the vehicle from leaving the lane while driving
  • Lane Following Assist (LFA): Helps detect lane markings and vehicles ahead and provides steering inputs to help center the vehicle in the lane
  • Driver Attention Warning (DAW)7: Analyzes the driver attention level and provides a warning if a break is recommended. It may also provide a leading vehicle departure alert if the leading vehicle departs from a stop and the driver does not react within a certain time period
  • Blind Spot Collision Warning (BCW) with Parallel Exit: May help avoid collisions with rear-side vehicles when exiting a parallel parking spot by automatically assisting with braking
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance-Assist (RCCA): Helps detect approaching cross traffic when in reverse. When approaching cross traffic is detected, the system alerts the driver and may apply brakes
  • Safe Exit Warning (SEW)8: Provides a warning when a vehicle is approaching from the rear-side while someone is exiting the vehicle
  • Rear Occupant Alert (ROA)9: Provides a warning to the driver to check the rear seat before exiting the vehicle

Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go and Navigation-Based Curve is available across the Niro lineup, as is FCA with Assist-Junction w/ Cyclist & Junction Turning. Optional for the first time on Niro EV is Highway Driving Assist II10, which integrates the functionality of Lane Change Assist, FCA with Lane Change, and Smart Cruise Control with Machine Learning.

Kia Connect advanced in-vehicle connectivity, which is accessible in-car or through the Kia Access App, is standard on Niro EX and above11. Additionally, the driver can unlock the 2023 Niro’s doors through new Digital Key 2.0, which facilitates opening and starting the Niro using an Apple iPhone, Apple Watch or Samsung Galaxy smartphones. And sharing Digital Key 2.0 is as simple as sending a text. Over-The-Air (OTA) updates ensure that maps and the infotainment system are updated automatically. Stolen Vehicle Recovery and Immobilization offers peace of mind for owners, with the capability to assist law enforcement agencies to recover a stolen vehicle. Smart Speaker Integration lets customers use Amazon-Alexa or Google-Assistant enabled smart speakers or devices to remotely control certain vehicle functions, such as remote start. Additional functionality, including 911 Connect and Roadside Assistance, are also part of the Kia Connect feature set.

Three Flavors, All Sustainable

The all-new Kia Niro will arrive in the U.S. in three distinct powertrain configurations: the Niro HEV hybrid, the Niro PHEV plug-in hybrid, and the all-electric Niro EV. All Niro models are front-wheel-drive, which provides advantages in adverse weather. A 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is standard in HEV and PHEV.

The Niro HEV features a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine coupled with a 32kW permanent magnet synchronous electric motor, for a combined maximum power output of 139 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque. Improved cooling, friction and combustion technologies ensure maximum fuel efficiency, and Niro HEV returns 53 mpg12 combined (when equipped with 16-inch wheels) and a driving range of 588 miles. When equipped with 18-inch wheels, the HEV still achieves an impressive 49 mpg12 combined.

The Niro PHEV pairs the 1.6-liter engine with a 62kW electric motor, for a total system output of 180 hp and 195 lb.-ft. of torque. When it is connected to a Level 2 charger, the Niro PHEV can refill its 11.1-kWh lithium-ion polymer battery in under three hours. Fully charged, the all-electric range (AER) of the Niro PHEV is 33 miles12 and achieves 108 MPGe12 combined: an improvement of 25 percent over the model it replaces.

The all-electric Niro EV is powered by a 64.8 kWh battery and a 150kW (201-horsepower) motor with DC fast-charging capability as standard. Plugged in to a Level 3 fast charger, the Niro EV can replenish 10 to 80 percent in under 45 minutes, at a maximum charging capability of 85 kW. The 11kW onboard charger also helps recharge the Niro EV in under seven hours on a Level 2 charger. EPA-rated AER for the Niro EV is 253 miles. An optional heat pump and battery warmer help preserve range in cold temperatures. The EV will be available in two trims: the well-equipped standard model is Wind, while the fully loaded model is Wave.

In addition to Sport and Eco drive modes, the all-new Kia Niro introduces Green Zone Drive Mode, which automatically transfers Niro HEV and Niro PHEV into EV drive mode in residential areas, and nearby schools and hospitals. The Niro automatically uses electric power based on navigation cues and driving history data, and recognizes favorite places, such as home and office set in the navigation system.

Intelligent regenerative braking enables a variety of regeneration levels to easily slow the car and recuperate kinetic energy to maximize driving range. The system can calculate the amount of regeneration required using radar and road gradient information, and it can allow all Niro models to harvest the maximum amount of energy from its brakes while bringing the vehicle to a gentle halt.

Kia America and Hyundai Motor America Resolve Engine Litigation

  • Automakers Provide Assistance To Owners Of Kia and Hyundai Vehicles Equipped With Certain Theta II MPI Engines, Nu GDI Engines, and Gamma GDI Engines.

IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 26, 2022 – Kia America and Hyundai Motor America have entered into an agreement to resolve class action litigation with owners of certain vehicles equipped with Theta II multi-port fuel injection (“MPI”) engines, Nu gasoline direct injection (“GDI”) engines, and Gamma GDI engines. This agreement will provide various cash compensation options, extended warranties, free inspection and repair of the covered engines for certain qualifying repairs, and installation of a software update Kia and Hyundai introduced to enhance safety and detection of potential engine failure.

Vehicles in the settlement include approximately 1.16 million Kia (2011-2020 Optima Hybrid, 2017-2020 Optima Plug-in Hybrid, 2011-2013 Sorento, 2011-2013 Sportage, 2010-2018 Forte, 2010-2016 Forte Koup, 2012-2019 Soul) and 1.05 million Hyundai (2011-2019 Sonata Hybrid, 2016-2019 Sonata Plug-In Hybrid, 2010-2012 Santa Fe, 2010-2021 Tucson, 2014 Elantra Coupe, 2014-2016 Elantra, 2014-2020 Elantra GT, and 2012-2017 Veloster) vehicles with 2.4-liter Theta II MPI Hybrid, 2.4-liter Theta II MPI, 2.0-liter Nu GDI, 2.0-liter Nu GDI Hybrid & Plug-In Hybrid and 1.6-liter Gamma GDI engines.

Terms of the settlement include:

  • Cash reimbursement for certain past repairs and related expenses, such as towing, rental cars, and other transportation costs;
  • Cash compensation for certain past trade-ins and sales in lieu of certain repairs;
  • Cash reimbursement for certain incidentals, such as towing, transportation, and, in some cases lodging and meals, for qualifying vehicle break-downs, depending on distance from residence;
  • Free inspection and repair or replacement of damaged engines that are still within the duration of their 15-year or 150,000-mile extended warranty for certain qualifying engine repairs;
  • Free installation of the Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS) software update;
  • Various goodwill compensation for customers inconvenienced by previous lengthy engine repair times, denied warranty coverage, vehicle loss due to qualifying fire, and trade-ins and sales due to loss of faith, among other provisions.

These class action lawsuits have been consolidated into In re: Hyundai and Kia Engine Litigation II, Case No. 8:18-cv-02223, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.  Plaintiffs in this action are represented by Matthew D. Schelkopf of Sauder Schelkopf, Gretchen Freeman Cappio of Keller Rohrback L.L.P., Steve Berman of Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro LLP, Adam R. Gonnelli of Law Office of Adam R. Gonnelli, L.L.C., and Bonner C. Walsh of Walsh PLLC.

Knock Sensor Detection System (“KSDS”) Software Update

Each of these vehicles is part of an ongoing product improvement campaign to install an engine monitoring technology called a knock sensor detection system. The technology uses software innovations and leverages existing engine sensors to continuously monitor for symptoms that may precede an engine failure. It is installed free of charge for all vehicles in the settlement by Hyundai and Kia dealers.

The knock sensor detection system software continuously monitors engine vibrations for unusual dynamic patterns that develop as an engine connecting rod bearing wears abnormally in a way that could later cause engine seizure. If vibrations caused by bearing wear start to occur, the malfunction indicator lamp will blink continuously and the vehicle will be placed in a temporary engine protection mode with reduced power and acceleration. In this temporary mode, drivers maintain full control of the vehicle as brakes, steering and safety devices such as airbags remain operational.

The vehicle can continue to be operated for a limited time in engine protection mode to enable the customer to safely drive it to a dealer for inspection and repair, but acceleration will be slower, with a reduced maximum speed and a limited engine speed of approximately 1,800 to 2,000 rpm. When tested using a fleet of vehicles specifically prepared to test the knock sensor technology, the knock sensor system successfully detected failing connecting rod bearings and responded with activation of the engine protection mode.

"Kia’s longest running nameplate continues to evolve into something greater with each generation, with the fifth generation delivering more of everything – especially safety – for today’s savvy, adventurous, and eco-conscious compact SUV buyers,” said Steven Center, COO and EVP, Kia America. “These latest TSP designations are proof positive of that.”

For 2023, the Sportage is underpinned by Kia’s all-new third generation N3 platform and delivers a wealth of standard Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, including Forward Collision Avoidance (FCA) with Cyclist detection capability, Rear Occupant Alert (ROA) and Lane Keeping Assist (LKA).

The Kia Telluride, Sorento, Seltos, Carnival built after March 2021 (with specific headlights), Sportage, Sportage Hybrid and Soul (with optional front crash prevention and specific headlights) also received TSP awards for 2022 earlier this year, while the Kia K5 and Stinger sedans qualified as TSP+ winners.

To receive a TSP rating, a vehicle must earn “Good” ratings in six crashworthiness tests – driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, original side, roof strength and head restraint tests – as well as an “Advanced” or “Superior” rating for vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention evaluations.  In addition, the vehicle must have at least one available headlight system that earns a “Good” or “Acceptable” rating.

KIA AMERICA'S RUSSELL WAGER NAMED 2022 BRAND GENIUS BY ADWEEK

  • Kia America recognized for marketing innovation, including brand integrations, use of emerging technologies and impactful CSR partnerships
  • Adweek Brand Genius Awards honor the most groundbreaking, dynamic and results-oriented brand builders

NEW YORK, NY, September 14, 2022 – Adweek announced the recipients of its 2022 “Brand Genius Awards,” including Kia America’s vice president, marketing, Russell Wager. Wager and the Kia America marketing organization were recognized for implementing high profile marketing partnerships with the Television Academy/EMMY Awards, activations with national network shows including “America’s Got Talent,” raising Kia’s profile through expanded CSR initiatives, and utilization of new and emerging technologies including NFTs in creative campaigns for the Super Bowl as well as new model launches.

“It is a privilege and an honor to be included among the class of 2022 Adweek Brand Genius Award recipients,” said Wager. “This honor is one for which I am not solely responsible. I share this award with the talented team of Kia America professionals and innovative and creative agency partners we work with side-by-side each and every day.”

Under Wager’s leadership in the last year, Kia has implemented a variety of new and innovative marketing strategies as well as revisited tried-and-true marketing tactics including the development of NFTs for the brand’s 13th Super Bowl campaign. One of the more high-profile programs was the EV6 Robo Dog Super Bowl Campaign, which included a partnership with The Petfinder Foundation to shine a light on shelter animals seeking adoption and was implemented under Kia’s “Accelerate The Good” CSR program. Kia launched a special Robo Dog NFT collection featuring six unique Robo Dogs that were auctioned off, and a generative collection of 2,022 Robo Dogs for sale with proceeds benefiting the Petfinder Foundation – raising almost $100,000 to date. The spot included a QR code that when downloaded by consumers allowed them to bring Robo Dog into their homes virtually and interact with the virtual pet so they could imagine what having a dog in their home would be like. From there, they were taken to a listing of local animal shelters where they could adopt an animal in need of its forever home. Kia’s partnership with The Petfinder Foundation included a monetary donation that enabled The Petfinder Foundation to find forever homes for more than 17,000 shelter animals in need.

Kia also partnered with network properties including the EMMY Awards and America’s Got Talent for innovative brand integrations during those broadcasts. In addition, the brand continued its focus on CSR campaigns under the brand’s “Accelerate The Good” charitable initiatives including partnerships with Sea Turtle Inc., and One Warm Coat.

Kia America recently set a record overall August sales result, increased its overall competitive automotive market share to 10.5%, and expanded sales of the brand’s hybrid and electric models by more than 151-percent. Sales of Kia’s popular SUVs, including Telluride, Sportage and Sorento have increased by 18-, 59- and 114-percent, respectively, year-over-year.

THE NEW KIA TELLURIDE X-PRO CLIMBS HIGH IN NEW CREATIVE CAMPAIGN DEBUTING DURING THE 74TH EMMY® AWARDS

More Rugged and Capable 2023 Telluride X-Pro Shows Off Elevated Styling and Enhanced Technology

  • “Clouds” spot highlights new X-Pro model for Kia’s flagship SUV
  • The new Telluride will be showcased during a 105-second integration mirroring EMMY AWARD categories and celebrated television genres including comedy, drama, action thriller, and reality

IRVINE, Calif., September 12, 2022 – Kia’s most-awarded vehicle ever, the Telluride SUV, is the star of a new creative campaign and in-show video integration making their debut tonight during the live primetime broadcast of the 74TH EMMY® AWARDS on NBC. For 2023, Kia’s flagship SUV introduces a new X-Pro model built for adventures in the wild, and Kia will take things to new heights through an in-show video montage highlighting the new Telluride.

“The Kia Telluride took the Kia brand to new heights both literally and figuratively and now we’re showcasing just how rugged, capable and refined the new Telluride X-Pro is and how far off the beaten path it is ready to go,” said Russell Wager, vice president, marketing, Kia America. “Telluride is Kia’s most capable SUV ever and we wanted to show how it can adapt to a variety of situations, no matter what ‘genre’ of lifestyle people lead. Kia is proud to return as the Official Automotive Sponsor of the Television Academy and the 74th EMMY Awards for the third consecutive year and we have created video vignettes that play off the various award categories and celebrated television genres to highlight the versatility of Telluride with our 60-second spot displaying the SUV’s rugged capabilities.”

During the live broadcast of “The 74TH PRIMETIME EMMYS” airing Monday, September 12th (8:00-11:00 PM, live ET/5:00-8:00 PM, live PT) on NBC, and available to stream live on Peacock for the first time – Kia will debut a 60-second spot, “Clouds.”

Created by David & Goliath, Kia’s creative agency of record and filmed on the Imogene Pass near Telluride, Colorado at an elevation of 13,114 feet, the spot follows a couple as they drive a 2023 Kia Telluride X-Pro  along a winding path which takes them higher and higher up the side of a desolate mountain. The Telluride comes to a clearing near the mountain’s summit and slowly rolls to a stop before a three-story painter’s scaffold where two painters in white jumpsuits on the top landing are expertly yielding long-handled rollers and casually painting the sky itself. The painters look down at the Telluride and then at each other with curious and bemused looks on their faces as the driver leans forward and states, “Huh! I think we went too high!”

“Kia is a brand that is reaching new heights and much of that is thanks to the Telluride SUV,” continued Wager. “We wanted to highlight just how high the Telluride can take those that drive it, and also show how high the Kia brand is aiming because there’s no limit to how high this brand can – and will – go.”

In addition to the 60-second spot, Telluride X-Pro will be featured as part of a unique in-show integration covering a variety of acting/television genres to highlight how one scene with the same dialogue and actors can be construed differently based on the approach. The 1:45 piece was created by Creative Partnerships @ NBCU and will cover the comedy, drama, action thriller, and reality categories with the dialogue in each scene – and the presence of a Kia Telluride X-Pro SUV remaining the same. The only thing that changes in each is how the scenario plays out based on the specific genre and the actors’ approach to the situation.

Three years after bursting onto the scene as one of the most in-demand and award-winning three-row eight-passenger SUVs in the U.S., the Kia Telluride returns for 2023 with an array of enhancements that build upon the success of the original. The Telluride has not only attracted over 75 percent of its buyers as new to the Kia family, but because of high customer satisfaction, Telluride owners have the most brand loyalty of any midsize SUV when returning to market for another vehicle. Big, capable, and powerful, the Telluride is as ready as ever for adventures of all kinds, from family road trips across the country to off-road excursions bound by few limits.

  • Kia earned first-place and top-ranked honors in MotorTrend’s Ultimate Car Rankings for the second half of 2022
  • Nine different Kia models across various categories were recognized, including the award-winning 2022 EV6 and 2023 Telluride, along with several other electrified vehicles
  • MotorTrend updates Ultimate Car Rankings list twice a year; award criteria based on over 70 years of testing expertise as well as scores in safety, value and more

IRVINE, CA, September 2, 2022 – Nine Kia models were recognized in MotorTrend’s Ultimate Car Rankings for the second half of 2022. More than half of the podium winners are electrified vehicles, including the crowd favorite 2022 EV6, which took the top spot in the Electric SUV category.

"With so many of Kia's podium award winners hybrids or EVs, electrified vehicles are clearly becoming a strong suit for the brand,” said Buyer’s Guide Director Zach Gale. “From the superb Sportage Hybrid to the sporty EV6, Kia has made its presence felt in MotorTrend's Ultimate Car Rankings."

The 2023 Telluride, 2022 Rio Sedan, and Rio Hatchback, came in first place in the 3-row SUV, subcompact sedan, and subcompact hatchback segments, respectively. Bolstering Kia’s stable of electrified vehicles, the 2022 Niro1, Sportage Hybrid and Sorento Hybrid took second place in the Compact Hybrid Hatch, Compact Hybrid SUV, and 3-Row Hybrid SUV segments, respectively.

“We are honored so many of our vehicles have been recognized, especially the EV6, which continues to reaffirm its leadership status among an impressive field of electrified competitors,” said Steve Center, COO and EVP, Kia America. “While these rankings reinforce our advancement in electrification thus far, we’ll only become more formidable as our ‘Plan S’ strategy continues to unfold.”

MotorTrend's Ultimate Car Rankings launched in 2020 to help the average car buyer better understand their options. Using its long-running Car, Truck and SUV of the Year award programs as a foundation, the ranking system evaluates how a car drives, long-term value, safety, efficiency, driving range, technology, and more.
