  • All-electric EV6 and the 2023 Sportage take honors in the compact crossover category
  • Seltos earns third straight subcompact crossover award
  • Sorento recognized in the midsize crossover category

IRVINE, CA, December 28, 2022 – Kia is Consumer Guide Automotive’s most awarded brand in 2023 with the Soul, Seltos, Sportage, Sorento and EV6 receiving Best Buy awards. This is the ninth consecutive year that Soul has been honored in the subcompact crossover category, and third year in a row for the Seltos in the same segment. The all-electric EV6 and 2023 Sportage were named compact crossover winners, and Sorento was recognized by the editors of Consumer Guide Automotive in the midsize crossover category.

“From rugged SUVs to capable crossovers and innovative EVs, Kia’s comprehensive lineup delivers the world-class design, outstanding quality, and cutting-edge technology today’s discerning buyers are looking for,” said Steven Center, COO & EVP, Kia America. “Being the most awarded brand in Consumer Guide’s 2023 Best Buy Awards is another transformational moment for Kia as we pursue our mobility leadership goals.”

Since 1967, Consumer Guide Automotive’s award-winning editorial team has used a rigorous and comprehensive evaluation process to identify the vehicles worthy of serious consideration by consumers. The editors utilize objective criteria, such as price, features, performance, accommodations, fuel economy, reliability records, and resale value, to assess each vehicle.

“Kia’s growth as a transportation innovator has been exciting to watch. The breadth and depth of the brand’s product lineup includes something for almost every consumer, from value to luxury, with a healthy dose of sportiness, too. In every popular segment, Kia offers a must-drive model for shoppers to consider,” said publisher Tom Appel, who led the editors’ selection process for this year’s list.

KIA AMERICA HELPS MORE THAN 22,000 SHELTER ANIMALS FIND FOREVER HOMES

  • Kia donated $500,000 to The Petfinder Foundation to help shelter animals find their forever homes
  • Kia’s year-long partnership with The Petfinder Foundation was a component of the creative launch campaign for the all-electric Kia EV6

IRVINE, Calif., December 27, 2022 – Kia America announced today that 22,422 shelter animals nationwide have been placed in their forever homes thanks to the brand’s year-long partnership with The Petfinder Foundation. Launched in February 2022 as part of Kia’s Super Bowl ad starring “Robo Dog,” Kia’s $500,000 donation helped cover adoption costs.

“Kia is dedicated to giving back and helping more than 22,000 shelter animals find new homes is proof that initiatives like this work and improve local communities, in this instance by easing the burden of overcrowding on local animal shelters nationwide,” said Russell Wager, vice president, marketing, Kia America.

In a first for the brand, Kia also developed a series of NFTs based on “Robo Dog”, the robot puppy and star of Kia’s Super Bowl spot for the all-electric Kia EV6. In addition to making 10,000 NFTs available for free, the brand also released an additional 10,000 generative NFTs. These unique designs were available for purchase with 90-percent of all primary sales proceeds benefiting The Petfinder Foundation to help animals in need find their forever homes. In addition, a 10-percent royalty was written into the smart contract on the blockchain, so whenever a Robo Dog NFT across the series was resold on a participating secondary market, The Petfinder Foundation once again benefitted. Sales of Kia’s NFTs amounted to an additional $100,000 donation for The Petfinder Foundation.

“We are so honored to partner with Kia America. Their generous donation helped countless animals find loving and forever homes in 2022,” said Toni Morgan, Executive Director, The Petfinder Foundation.

Kia’s Accelerate The Good charitable initiative has donated more than $14 million to various causes since 2019. Most recently, Kia announced a minimum donation of $1 million[1] to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, marking the third act of giving to St. Jude’s this year. Previous donations to the organization were announced as part of the 10 millionth Kia vehicle sold in the U.S., and again as part of the groundbreaking announcement for a new assembly plant in the state of Georgia.

ALL-ELECTRIC KIA EV6 WINS “BEST EV OF 2022” FROM THE DRIVE

  • All-electric EV6 commended for combination of category-level advantages in driving dynamics, available ADAS features, all-electric range
  • EV6 sets the benchmark for electric vehicles as inaugural segment award winner

IRVINE, Calif., December 22, 2022 – This week, the all-electric Kia EV6 was named “Best EV of 2022” by the editorial team of The Drive in the publication’s inaugural awards distribution. Editors from The Drive noted that the combination of the EV6’s styling, driving dynamics, occupant comfort, and all-electric range helped it stand out in the electric-vehicle segment.

“The all-electric EV6 delivers on the matters that make an EV rise to the top of the class, such as a starting MSRP under $50,0001, an EPA estimated range of 310 miles of all electric range2 in its Wind and GT-Line RWD trims3, as well as numerous other characteristics that make it desirable to own,” said Steven Center, COO and EVP, Kia America.

The EV6 was selected from among the top-ranked electric vehicles as determined by the editors of The Drive in their last 12 months of vehicle evaluations.

“Our team has been consistently and extremely impressed with the Kia EV6—the level of thought and care that went into crafting a more approachable and affordable electric vehicle is obvious. It's got head-turning design, a usable range, excellent performance and handling, and a great suite of advanced driver assistance features,” said Kyle Cheromcha, editor-in-chief, The Drive. “And to have all of that protected by an exceptional factory limited warranty—this is the kind of car that actually gets people to switch to an EV, instead of merely considering it.”

The EV6 continues to rise in popularity. To date, more than 19,000 EV6 models have been sold at Kia retailers in all 50 states. The EV6 delivers jaw-dropping performance, ultra-fast DC charging compatibility, an available onboard power generator4, and a flat-floor interior that utilizes innovative materials throughout the cabin. The EV6 offers a wide array of advanced driver assistance systems5, a remarkable level of connectivity features, as well as Kia’s latest-generation energy-efficient heat pump, which scavenges waste heat from the vehicle’s coolant system. The EV6 is a critical part of the Kia “Plan S” strategy to launch at least two battery-electric vehicles (BEV) per year and build a full line-up of 14 BEVs by 2027.

Exclusive Stinger Tribute Edition celebrates Kia's high-performance vision

  • Ultimate embodiment of Kia’s high-performance Stinger sedan
  • Unique Tribute Edition introduces exciting new color and sports-focused interior trim enhancements
  • Production limited to 1,000 units worldwide
  • Kia's high-performance spirit will continue through its recognized GT lineups

(SEOUL) December 21, 2022 – Kia has announced details of a new, ultra-exclusive, ultimate-specification Stinger Tribute Edition. Limited to just 1,000 examples worldwide, the Tribute Edition pays homage to Kia’s high-performance vision, and celebrates the Stinger sedan’s significant contribution to the brand since its introduction in 2017, as production of the groundbreaking model comes to an end.

Building on the Stinger 3.3-litre twin-turbocharged V6 GT specification, the Stinger Tribute Edition elevates the striking sedan’s aesthetic appeal and sporting nature to a new level. In addition to the existing Ascot Green paint finish, customers are offered the choice of a new Moonscape matte gray paint hue. Further sophistication is provided by the black finish that adorns the sleek housing of the exterior mirrors, the arresting black Brembo brake calipers and the evocative 19-inch gloss black design wheels.

“The Stinger Tribute Edition denotes an important chapter in the story of Kia’s high-performance ethos. Featuring an exclusive color and interior trim never before seen on the sedan, it also serves as a fitting celebration of the Stinger’s contribution to the Kia brand," said Chang Sung Ryu, Senior Vice President and Head of Purchase CX Design Sub-division.

Inside, a carefully curated collection of design and material upgrades further enhance the sporting ambience of the Stinger’s spacious, technology-infused cabin. Bespoke Terracotta brown leather enriches the sports seat, and the material’s timeless appeal extends to features such as the steering wheel, door side trim and door handles. Kia’s designers have applied a carbon-effect finish to the console upper cover and the door panels to complement the new Terracotta leather trim.

A newly introduced wasp-shaped emblem is elegantly embedded into the headrest of the seats. This subtle embellishment simultaneously denotes the car’s name and signifies the razor-sharp response of its potent 3.3-litre twin-turbocharged V6 gasoline engine. The application of a numbered door sill plate on the driver’s side provides authentication of exclusivity, confirming that just 1,000 units will be built globally.

“As we enter a new age of mobility, Kia will satisfy the needs of customers who seek to enjoy elevated levels of dynamic driving pleasure through high-performance electrified models such as the EV6 GT. And the brand’s strategy to continue accelerating the development of innovative electrification technologies will ensure that sustainability and strong performance combine effortlessly under the Kia badge,” Chang Sung Ryu added.

* Editor’s note: Availability of design characteristics described in this release may vary by trim and region.

Kia continues to inspire sports fans worldwide following successful FIFA World Cup 2022™

  • Kia continues its dedication to inspiring global sports fans following successful FIFA World Cup 2022™
  • Kia to maintain creative brand engagement initiatives for upcoming Australian Open in 2023
  • Sporting events evoke Kia’s key brand message: ‘Inspiration. It’s in all of us.’

(SEOUL) December 19, 2022 – Kia is set to continue its dedication to inspiring global sports fans following the successful conclusion of its brand activities at the FIFA World Cup 2022™.

In alignment with Kia’s key brand message for this year’s World Cup, ‘Inspiration. It’s in all of us,’ Kia brought together fans from dozens of nations around the globe and will now turn its attention to bringing its support to other regions and events.

A total of 297 Kia cars and 70 Kia branded buses were mobilized during the FIFA World Cup 2022™ period, facilitating the safe and convenient mobility of players, referees, management and staff. With the fleet including 80 eco-friendly Kia vehicles (30 EV6 GT-Line, 30 Sorento Plug-in Hybrid and 20 Niro Plug-in Hybrid), the vehicles contributed to the aim of creating a sustainable World Cup.

The use of the EV6 GT-Line was particularly significant, with its becoming the first fully electric vehicle of Kia ever used at the FIFA World Cup. Its role was additionally meaningful in representing Kia’s global sustainable activities in the Middle East, where eco-friendly vehicles are currently less popular.

To commemorate the occasion, Kia and FIFA produced a documentary, ‘Road to Inspiration – presented by Kia,’ which is now available on FIFA’s OTT platform ‘FIFA+’. It features legendary players Mikaël Silvestre (France) and Nigel de Jong (The Netherlands) helping international sports presenter Adam Hunt navigate Qatar with the EV6 GT-Line.

In addition to the vehicles used to keep the tournament on the move, the Kia EV9 Concept was displayed at Kia’s ‘Ground of Inspiration’ brand booth in the FIFA Fan Festival, attracting the attention of thousands of football fans. Although previously unveiled at the 2021 LA Auto Show and 2022 Busan Motor show, its appearance at the World Cup marks the first time the concept version of Kia’s future flagship EV has been on open display to the public.

The EV9 Concept was joined by further iconic Kia models in the Brand Activation Areas inside other World Cup venues, including the EV6 GT, the most powerful Kia production vehicle ever with 576-HP and the performance of acceleration from 0 to 100km/h in 3.5 seconds, at Al Bayt Stadium and Sportage at Khalifa International Stadium.

These were seen not only by the millions of fans who attended the tournament, but also by the 250 guests from 39 nations who were selected by Kia to receive the chance to view a match in person through the ‘Road to Inspiration’ program. The guests included dealers, business partners, current and prospective customers and content creators.  On the pitch, meanwhile, 64 talented young footballers from around 17 countries were also invited to the World Cup for the once-in-a-lifetime experience of acting as the Kia Official Match Ball Carriers.

Chang Sung Ryu, Senior Vice President and Head of Purchase CX Design Sub-division, commented: “The success of every element of the FIFA World Cup 2022™ - from Kia’s brand activations and the smooth running of the tournament, to the most magical and memorable moments on the pitch – boils down to individuals inspired to come together as a team to achieve a greater goal. It is with this spirit that we now look ahead to the continued impact of our other partnerships in the world of sports, providing a variety of opportunities to experience the present and future of Kia and to join our movement.”

With its program of FIFA World Cup 2022™ activations having now successfully concluded, Kia is looking to future landmark events in sports and locations with similar global appeal. Its inspiring and creative content will continue at the Australian Open in January 2023.

KIA SPORTAGE HYBRID NAMED A WINNER IN MOTOR1.COM 2022 STAR AWARDS

Stylish and Compact SUV Takes the Prize in Best SUV Category

IRVINE, CA, December 13, 2022 – The 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid has been recognized in the Motor1.com 2022 Star Awards, taking the top honors in the Best SUV category. Boasting improvements in design, performance, and roominess from the previous Sportage, the hybrid version of the fifth generation 2023 Sportage paves the way toward electrification in Kia’s ongoing cadence of more alternative fuel offerings guided by the brand’s ‘Plan S’ global strategy.

"We are thrilled the esteemed editors at Motor1.com have recognized the relentless effort we put into making the hybrid version of our longest running nameplate,” said Steven Center, COO and EVP, Kia America. “Built upon the Sportage’s foundation of superb driving dynamics, cutting-edge design, and vast array of technology, a hybrid not only strengthens the Sportage lineup, but also our ‘Plan S’ product portfolio."

Motor1.com's second annual Star Awards considers all new vehicles that have been rated by its team of expert editors. Using its curated Star Rating system, Motor1.com then chose top rated contestants for a week of head-to-head testing on a variety of proving grounds. Considering factors such as design, safety, performance, and comfort, editors then debate and vote on a winner in each category.

“With tremendous competition across segments and price points, awarding our favorite SUV of the year is never easy,” said Seyth Miersma, editor-in-chief of Motor1.com. “The Kia Sportage Hybrid impressed our team with its design, feature set, and blend of refinement and enthusiasm on-road. We think it offers fantastic value and flexibility to a wide range of drivers.”

Significantly larger than the previous Sportage, the Hybrid is defined by a bold blend of modern styling and sporty visual elements, with an interior laden with some of the latest advancements in technology, including an expansive list of ADAS features and available dual panoramic display screens. The compact SUV’s electrified performance comes from a seamless hybrid powertrain combining a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine with a 44-kilowatt motor rated at 42/44/43 mpg city/highway/combined in FWD configurations and 38/38/38 mpg in AWD versions.1  Together, the engine and motor make 227 horsepower channeled to either the front wheels or an active all-wheel-drive system2

And for most vehicles this would be enough. But with a performance envelope as deep at the EV6 GT’s, exploring the limits required some track time and the Las Vegas Motor Speedway provided the backdrop in the form of head-to-head drag racing experience and a high-speed ride and handling course.

“The EV6 GT ushers in the next chapter of the Plan S electrification story for Kia, elevating the EV6’s thrilling performance and near effortless drivability beyond expectations,” said Steven Center, COO and Executive Vice President, Kia America. “With a base MSRP just over $61,000, Kia is not only introducing an EV performance car, it’s showcasing our most powerful production car in company history.”

The arrival of the EV6 GT marks a new era for electrification and the Kia brand. Based on the award-winning E-GMP modular platform, the EV6 GT elevates the discourse and expands the limits surrounding electric performance vehicles.

Electric Performance Dialed to a New Level
The EV6 GT raises the threshold of performance for the already potent EV6 lineup, with a dual-motor e-AWD powertrain that can send power to all four wheels. An energy-dense 77.4-kWh Nickel-Cobalt-Manganese (80/10/10) battery pack serves a front-mounted 160kW motor, combined with a rear-mounted 270kW motor, to produce a combined power output of 430 kW (576 hp) and 545 lb.-ft. of torque. The EV6 GT accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, and top speed rises to 161 mph. In independent testing performed by leading third party AMCI, the EV6 GT out-accelerated a 2021 Ferrari Roma and 2020 Lamborghini Huracan Evo Spyder RWD.

The performance upgrades that define the EV6 GT also include a dedicated sport suspension with electronically controlled dampers and unique front suspension performance components. Dynamic damping control offers sporty handling and a balanced, comfortable ride. Traction and stability are enhanced by an electronic Limited Slip Differential (e-LSD) when cornering, by directing torque to the wheels with most grip8. Larger ventilated front (15-inch) and rear (14.2) disc brakes with monoblock calipers are standard. Z-rated Goodyear Eagle®9 F1 tires fitted with 21-inch alloy wheels are also standard on the EV6 GT.

The EV6 GT introduces GT mode, My Drive mode, and Drift mode, in addition to the Eco, Normal, and Sport drive modes offered on other EV6 models. With the push of a button on the steering wheel, GT mode is designed to increase the performance of the EV6 GT’s motors, braking, steering, suspension, e-LSD, and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) systems into their most dynamic settings. Drivers can also create custom-tailored settings to suit individual driving preferences using My Drive mode. For an even more exhilarating driving experience, selectable Drift mode can distribute more power to the rear wheels. Two additional sounds unique to the EV6 GT join the roster of customizable Active Sound Design options.

The EV6 GT benefits from the ability to recharge at a rate similar to its eye-opening acceleration. It features an 800V electrical architecture, which is capable of charging the battery from 10 to 80 percent state of charge in under 18 minutes at 350-kW chargers. The EV6 GT features a strong body structure that utilizes 75 percent high-strength steel and ultra-high strength steel, as well as the world-first integrated drive axle (IDA) designed to enhance durability and handling, combining wheel bearings with the drive shaft to save weight.

‘Opposites United’ with a hint of neon
Imagined and brought to life by Kia’s design studios in Seoul, Frankfurt and Irvine, the styling of EV6 GT is a worldwide collaboration inspired by Kia’s design philosophy called “Opposites United,” which fuses cues and inspirations from the contrasts found in nature and everyday life. A long wheelbase and short overhangs increases interior space with a flat floor; underfloor mounted battery placement enables a low center of gravity for stability.

Subtle exterior and interior flourishes accent the EV6 GT. Front and rear fasciae unique to the GT emphasize vehicle width, and a rear diffuser completes the GT transformation. Bespoke 21-inch alloy wheels with neon-accented brake calipers communicate the high-performance credentials and stopping power of the EV6 GT. Inside, vegan suede-trimmed, deeply bolstered performance front bucket seats are inscribed with the ‘GT’ moniker and green piping. Premium, touches exclusive to the GT trim of the EV6 GT adorn the cabin, including neon accents, lightweight front bucket seats, and a striped motif on the upper dashboard and front center armrest. Ambient lighting across the door panels, center console, and dashboard delivers a soothing glow.

EV6 in a nutshell
Like all EV6 models, the EV6 GT is part of the Kia “Plan S” strategy to launch at least two battery-electric vehicles (BEV) per year and build a full line-up of 14 BEVs by 2027. The EV6 GT showcases a patented multi-charging system supporting 400V and 800V DC charging, which is designed to work on DC chargers with speeds ranging from 50kW to 350kW. Innovative Onboard Power Generator10 functionality makes the EV6 GT a power source on wheels, supporting certain devices for activities as varied as home improvement projects, camping, and tailgating. Electricity flows from the high-energy battery to an Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU), providing 1,900 watts of power to a variety of electrical appliances, devices, tools, and recreational equipment.

The EV6 offers a wide array of standard and available technology features, and a roster of standard and available features that help enhance safety and convenience. In fact, the EV6 boasts 20 standard active Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)11.

When it goes on sale in Q4 2022, the EV6 GT will be available in limited quantities nationwide at Kia retailers. All EV6 GT buyers will receive a charging credit of 1,000 kWh at Electrify America stations, useable over a three-year period12. Pricing is subject to change at an announcement closer to vehicle launch.

KIA AMERICA BRINGS THE MAGIC OF THE NORTH POLE TO PATIENTS AT ST. JUDE CHILDREN’S RESEARCH HOSPITAL

  • Patients and families at St. Jude take a trip to the North Pole without ever leaving the hospital via a 180-degree digital wall in the hospital lobby and in-room TV streaming
  • Kia will make a donation for every new car purchased this holiday season during Kia’s “Season of Giving Back”. The company will give a minimum of $1 million1 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to help aid cancer research and treatment

IRVINE, Calif., December 8, 2022 – Kia America is continuing to “Accelerate The Good” this holiday season by expanding its partnership with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in an effort to bring the joy and magic of the holiday season directly to St. Jude patients and families. Created by David&Goliath (D&G), Kia’s creative agency of record, the “Season of Giving Back” campaign gives children at St. Jude and their parents the gift of a virtual trip to the North Pole without ever having to leave the comfort and safety of the St. Jude campus. For the first time in the hospital’s history, the TV spot was filmed on-site at St. Jude in Memphis, Tennessee. In addition to airing on television, the video will be available on the St. Jude in-house television network.

The centerpiece of the campaign is a :60-second broadcast spot titled, “Holiday Joyride.” For the commercial, Kia constructed a custom 50- by 100-foot set which included 296 curved LED screens surrounding an all-electric Kia EV6 mounted on a system of hydraulic compressors.

The commercial opens with St. Jude patient Adalyn sitting safely in the backseat of the EV6, which ‘travels’ through a tunnel of red and green star-shaped arches created by the curved screens. The LED screens slowly transition to depict a star-filled night sky as a personalized welcome message appears featuring the patient’s name. As the EV6 is gently lifted and lowered to simulate the experience of driving, the virtual landscape reveals a forest filled with majestic snow-covered pine trees, a galloping reindeer, a soaring eagle and a narwhal moving across the sky. The excitement and joy of being transported to this mystical winter wonderland shine on Adalyn’s face as the EV6 ascends above the rooftops of the North Pole.

“Helping those in need is at the heart of the Kia brand and we are proud to support St. Jude with our ‘Season of Giving Back’,” said Russell Wager, vice president, marketing, Kia America. “We hope to provide holiday cheer to those families that are facing the most difficult of circumstances with dignity, bravery, and grace. Kia is honored to be a small part of the impact St. Jude has on so many.”

In November, Kia America announced that the brand will donate a minimum of $1,000,000 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The donation represents the brand’s third act of giving to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital this year as part of Kia’s “Accelerate The Good” charitable initiative, which has donated more than $14 million to various causes since 2019. Previously this year, Kia donated to St. Jude as part of the 10 millionth Kia vehicle sold in the U.S., and again as part of the groundbreaking announcement for a new assembly plant in the state of Georgia.

“With creativity rooted in purpose, Kia America helped put smiles on some St. Jude patients’ faces this holiday season by taking them on a light-filled journey to the North Pole,” said Richard C. Shadyac, Jr., president and CEO of ALSAC, the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “We have such gratitude for our partnership with Kia and its dealer network, whose support helps to ensure that no family will receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing, or food so that they can focus on helping their child live.”

In addition to the broadcast spot and monetary donation, the campaign includes, :30,:15,:06 cutdowns of “Holiday Joyride” for use on digital platforms. The campaign will also feature broadcast radio, OOH, print, point-of-sale and social media extensions.
