2023 KIA TELLURIDE EARNS IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ AWARD

  • 2023 Telluride receives 2023 TSP+ designation following IIHS’s more stringent requirements
  • Kia’s best-seller recognized as standout model in crashworthiness and crash prevention

IRVINE, CA, February 28, 2023 – The 2023 Kia Telluride has been awarded the 2023 Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) rating.

Previously a TOP SAFETY PICK for 2022, 2021, and 2020 when equipped with specific headlights, the Telluride’s upgraded award comes following the IIHS’ enactment of strengthened requirements for its 2023 TSP and TSP+ awards, with tougher criteria for side crash protection, pedestrian crash prevention systems, and headlight ratings. Under the more stringent requirements, the Telluride earned ratings of “good” in all four 2023 IIHS crashworthiness evaluations.

“Since its introduction in 2019, consumers have continually gravitated toward the Telluride because it checks all the right boxes” said Steven Center, COO & EVP, Kia America. “Our highly decorated Telluride has been lauded for design, performance, technology, and safety features, which is further emphasized as a result of the TOP SAFETY PICK+ award that reflects Kia’s commitment to making safety a priority.”

The IIHS reports the biggest change to the criteria for both TSP and TSP+ awards is the replacement of the original IIHS side crash test with the updated evaluation launched in 2021, which involves 82 percent more energy than the original test.  The TSP+ criteria includes another new evaluation, the nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention test. Advanced or superior performance is required in both the nighttime and daytime pedestrian tests for TSP+ designation. The roof strength, head restraint and vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention evaluations are no longer part of the award criteria.

The 2023 Telluride sports fresh design elements inside and out, along with an expanded list of technology for greater peace-of-mind and driver confidence. Two new trims, X-Line and X-Pro, have also been added to the lineup to promote more adventures for owners who enjoy the outdoors.

KIA AMERICA READIES FULL COURT PRESS FOR 2023 NBA ALL-STAR GAME

  • Free throw shooting game inspired by “Legends of the Driveway” creative campaign for the Kia Telluride celebrates where the love for basketball begins
  • Attendees can meet current and past NBA players throughout the weekend
  • Kia will gift a few lucky basketball fans with tickets to Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game

IRVINE, Calif., Feb. 15, 2023 – This weekend, Salt Lake City will be the basketball world’s “center court” with the 72nd NBA All-Star Game taking place on Sunday, February 19, at Vivint Arena. And as the Official Automotive Partner of the NBA, Kia America is providing basketball fans with an interactive experience that includes a free throw shooting game, on-site vehicle displays, and appearances by NBA players. In addition, throughout the weekend, Kia will randomly give away tickets to Sunday’s All-Star Game. Kia’s interactive environment will be open to NBA All-Star Weekend attendees from Friday, February 17 – Sunday, February 19.

Dubbed the “Kia NBA Crossover,” the activation includes a 60 by 40-foot interactive environment where four fans will go head-to-head in a pop-a-shot style shooting game. Players have 45 seconds to sink as many shots as possible, with each basket propelling Kia Telluride SUVs on an LED screen along a simulated course that starts in a Salt Lake City suburb and ends at the NBA All-Star Game. The activation was Inspired by Kia’s creative campaign, “Legends of the Driveway,” which was developed to celebrate the very place many basketball fans and players first fell in love with the game: the driveway.

“The excitement NBA fans bring to All-Star weekend is palpable and we are proud to provide this experience and share our own love of the game as a way to thank them for their continued support of both the NBA and the Kia brand,” said Russell Wager, vice president, marketing, Kia America. “This year marks Kia’s 16th season in partnership with the NBA, and we want to reward basketball fans with fun and memorable activities at one of the association’s signature events.”

On Saturday, February 18, Kia will host, for the first time, the Kia NBA Skills Challenge, where select players from the NBA will compete against each other and test their dribbling, passing and shooting skills. An all-electric Kia EV6 GT will be on-court during the challenge.

Niro, Niro EV, and EV6 GT Are Top Contenders Across Three Categories  

IRVINE, CA, Feb. 14, 2023 Three Kia models have been named among the finalists across three categories in the 2023 World Car Awards. The Kia Niro is among the list of finalists for 2023 World Car of the Year, while its electrified variant, the Niro EV, is a finalist for the 2023 World Electric Vehicle category. And with a hair-raising 567 horsepower on tap, the EV6 GT is a finalist in the 2023 World Performance Car category.

Hyundai Motor Group Donates $2 million to Aid Türkiye’s Earthquake Relief Efforts

  • The Group will make the donation to the Korean Red Cross
  • Hyundai Assan Otomotive Sanayi Ve Ticaret A.S., the Group’s auto making affiliate in Türkiye, separately donated EUR 500,000-worth of rescue equipment to monetary support for relief efforts

SEOUL, February 10, 2023 – Hyundai Motor Group is providing donations totaling USD 2 million to be used for the relief efforts in Türkiye and Syria.

Under Hyundai Motor Group, Hyundai Motor Company, Kia, and Hyundai Mobis are all contributing to the donations, which will be made through the Korean Red Cross and used for local relief activities and damage recovery.

In addition to the donation, Hyundai Motor's local subsidiary, Hyundai Assan Otomotiv Sanayi Ve Ticaret A.S., the Group’s automaking affiliate in Türkiye, had earlier extended emergency support, providing EUR 500,000-worth of casualty relief equipment, including cutters and grinders, and daily necessities such as food, sanitary goods and cold weather supplies.

KIA MAINTAINS MOMENTUM IN J.D. POWER VEHICLE DEPENDABILITY STUDY AS TOP MASS MARKET BRAND FOR THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR

Three Models Captured Segment Awards including Sportage and Forte

IRVINE, CA, February 9, 2023 – Kia America is ranked the number one mass-market brand in the J.D. Power 2023 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study for the third consecutive year after owners reported the fewest issues after three years. Adding to this substantial award are three segment wins for the Forte (Compact Car), Optima (Midsize Car), and Sportage (Compact SUV). This latest achievement continues to strengthen Kia’s reputation for dependability and reliability.

“It’s one thing for Kia to tout its world-class dependability, but it’s another thing for an organization like J.D. Power to recognize it,” said Sean Yoon, president and CEO of Kia North America and Kia America. “These accolades from J.D. Power are a validation of our dedication to developing dependable products. The industry-wide study examines problems experienced during the past 12 months by original owners of three-year old vehicles.  Overall dependability is determined by the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100).  Thus, a lower score reflects a higher level of reliability. The study was comprised of 30,062 completed surveys and examined how 2020 model-year vehicles are currently performing in terms of quality, component replacement and appeal.

“J.D. Power collects and assembles tens of thousands of customer voices from verified owners. Kia customers have responded with high quality ratings praising their experience after three years of ownership,” said Doug Betts, President, Global Automotive Division, J.D. Now, as the focus of a comprehensive marketing campaign, the new 2023 Kia Telluride’s rugged and refined personality is on full display in this action-packed tale of everyday heroism. And for the for the first time ever for a Super Bowl commercial, three alternate endings will be available exclusively on TikTok.

“Binky Dad is a very relatable story, one of a regular guy willing to go to any length to keep his family happy. As the baby starts to fuss, Mom digs through her bag and, after not finding what she’s looking for, turns to the Dad and asks, “You remembered the Binky®[1], right?” He immediately races across the hotel lobby to the valet stand where he grabs the key to his Kia Telluride X-Pro and exclaims, “I forgot the Binky!” A bystander captures the action and posts “OMG he forgot the Binky!” along with “#binkydad.” And that is how the adventures of Binky Dad and his trusty 2023 Kia Telluride begin.

FIRST SUPER BOWL COMMERCIAL TO END ON TIKTOK
In a first-of-its-kind initiative for a Super Bowl commercial, Kia chose TikTok to share three alternate endings to “Binky Dad” that will be available exclusively on the entertainment platform. 

“Kia is always looking for something new and engaging with our Super Bowl initiatives and we wanted to extend the spot beyond just the :60-seconds of airtime during the game to keep the story of Binky Dad and his Telluride alive and exciting,” continued Wager.

IRVINE, CA, February 8, 2023 – Kia’s 2023 Sorento PHEV and 2023 Rio have been named the winners of the 2023 Vincentric Best Value in America award in the Mid-Size SUV and Subcompact categories, respectively. The Kia Rio was previously recognized in the Subcompact Hatchback segment in 2021 and 2022.

In addition to the Best Value in America awards, Vincentric has also identified the 2023 Kia Rio as having the lowest total cost of ownership in the Subcompact and Subcompact Hatchback segments for the second year in a row.

Kia and Rafa Nadal Foundation launch ‘Kia Clubhouse: Melbourne’ to inspire next generation of tennis fans

Following its successful sponsorship of the 2023 Australian Open, and having recently announced the extension of the brand’s historic partnership with the tournament until 2028, Kia Corporation has launched the second iteration of its Clubhouse program, ‘Kia Clubhouse: Melbourne’ in partnership with Rafa Nadal Foundation during the 2023 Australian Open.

Continuing in the successful footsteps of ‘Kia Clubhouse: Paris,’ opened last May, the project aims to make tennis more accessible for all, inspiring the next generation to take up their rackets.

“Kia Clubhouse was developed to provide a space for children who may otherwise have been unable to access the game of tennis. In its second iteration we’ve done this and more, leaving a court for even more young people to be inspired by tennis, and of course, Rafael Nadal”, commented Artur Martins, Senior Vice President and Head of Kia Global Brand and Customer Experience Division.

To mark the launch of the latest Clubhouse location, Kia gave 18 children from Rafa Nadal Foundation (RNF) in Mallorca and NETS (Nadal Educational Tennis School) India a once-in-a-lifetime Melbourne experience. They were provided with behind-the-scenes access to the 2023 Australian Open and taken on trips around the city (including visits to Melbourne Zoo, a culinary school where they cooked traditional Australian dishes, and a street art tour).

The children also took part in the renovation of two local tennis courts at Maidstone Footscray Tennis Club in central Melbourne.

Having not received any funding in 15 years, the courts were renewed in the Australian Open color schemes, with designs that showcase the glorious moments of Rafael Nadal’s Australian Open victories back in 2009 and 2022.

Following the completion of the work, the RNF children became the first to use the courts during a tennis lesson led by official Tennis Australia coaches and supported by Australian influencer Samuel Begg.

To complete the project, a pair of bespoke art pieces was designed and created by Australian artists JESWRI and Heesco, depicting two of Rafael Nadal’s most iconic rallies from the 2009 and 2022 finals. Displayed at Maidstone Footscray Tennis Club as part of the ‘Rally Gallery’, the RNF children helped to complete the pieces, leaving their mark on the city and helping to inspire the next generation of players.

GEORGIA LAWMAKERS COMMEND KIA FOR MANUFACTURING AND ITS IMPACT TO THE STATE

IRVINE, Calif., February 1, 2023 – Led by Governor Brian P. Kemp, Georgia lawmakers recognized January 31 as “Kia Day,” commending Kia’s vehicle manufacturing and its impact to the state since making one of the biggest single foreign investments in Georgia’s history in 2006 by establishing a state-of-the-art vehicle assembly facility in West Point.

Kia Georgia was Kia Corporation’s first manufacturing plant in North America and assembles nearly 40-percent of all Kia vehicles sold in the U.S. To date, Kia has invested more than $1.9 billion in the state and Kia Georgia is responsible for more than 14,000 plant and supplier jobs in the region.

“Kia chose Georgia because they saw something in us – our great workforce, quality of life, and pro-business approach. And we saw something in Kia – a shared vision for transformational growth and a commitment to the hardworking people of our state,” said Governor Brian P. Kemp.

Kia is a dynamic part of the world’s third-largest automaker and continues to invest in Georgia. In October, it was revealed that assembly of Kia electric vehicles (EVs) is expected to begin in the first half of 2025 at Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA), which officially broke ground near Savannah, Georgia. HMGMA will create more than 8,100 jobs over the next few years.

“Kia was the first to open an auto manufacturing plant in Georgia because we saw the talented workforce, sense of community, respected pro-growth business climate and commitment to innovation that is prevalent here,” said Sean Yoon, president and CEO, Kia North America and Kia America. “Kia is focused on becoming a leader in sustainable mobility by popularizing EVs and we look forward to working with and bringing new opportunities to Georgia, the state we proudly call home.”

Kia Georgia’s total production is anticipated to surpass 4 million vehicles in April of 2023. The West Point facility has provided over $20 million in support of Georgia communities since 2009, including over $6 million to support educational programs such as the THINC College & Career Academy in LaGrange and SAE’s “A World in Motion.”

IRVINE, Calif., February 1, 2023 – Following the best retail sales in company history last year, Kia America began 2023 with a record-setting January performance of 51,983 units, up 22.3-percent year-over-year. January marked Kia’s sixth consecutive monthly sales record with four of Kia’s SUV and utility nameplates – Niro, Sportage, Telluride and Carnival – as well as the Forte compact sedan posting best-ever January totals. Sales of Kia’s electrified models increased 128-percent over the same period last year.

“On the heels of our best-ever annual retail sales performance, Kia accelerated into the New Year with our sixth consecutive month of record-breaking sales thanks to the popularity of our capable SUVs and electrified models,” said Eric Watson, vice president, sales operations, Kia America. “It’s poised to be another exciting year for the Kia brand with increased Telluride production, the new 2024 Seltos arriving soon[1] and full production of the Sportage, EV6 and Niro.”

In addition to sales, January saw several significant industry awards bestowed on various models within Kia’s world-class line-up, including:
